CHCH biker down last night (27 September)

NZ Police CommCens Alert 23:00 27-09-2007 Canterbury

Location of incident: Gilberthorpes Rd/ Buchanans Rd Christchurch

    Incident Type: Fatal vehicle crash

'At about 11.00pm on Thursday 27 September 2007 - Police attended a Fatal Motor vehicle in Buchanan's Road, on the outskirts of Christchurch.
A 38 year old man died at the scene after the motorcycle he was riding failed to stop at a controlled intersection and collided with a lamp-post. No other vehicle was involved in the incident and the deceased man was the sole operator of the motorcycle.
Police staff, including from the Police Serious Crash Unit, attended and an investigation into the full circumstances has commenced.
Initial indications from witnesses suggest that speed and alcohol were likely to be factors in the collision, though enquiries in that regard are yet to be fully completed.
At this point the deceased identity has been withheld - pending the notification to family members.'

    Natural selection at work...

I would extend sympathy to the family, but that's about it.

And then there is all the mud being left from the construction trucks from the subdivision up the road.

Why do people need to judge before the facts come out? We've gone through this fairly recently on KB where someone made an assumption about alcohol with a seriously injured rider that was not in fact true. And everyone jumped on the bandwagon. You'd think you'd all learn...
