my gf's SV1000s came with riser bars on it. Whoever did the mod bolted a couple of clamps to the top of the triple crown. I've got the same model bike but with std clip ons.
In my opinion I don't like the riser bars, for some reason they give me cramps in my forearms and I can't ride it for long. I find I have to keep my elbows up and out to be comfortable. No hint of that prob with the clip ons. However the risers do give you a more upright position which she likes because it takes the weight of her wrists.

You could try the wreckers and have a look as there are some bar clamps that will bolt though the top triple clamp with one or two bolts.
Or get some over size bar adaptors (pro tapers) and cut the bottom half round bit that goes into the smaller bar clamp and use the two mounting bolt hole that are use to clamp the adaptors to the normal size bar clamp to bolt them to the top triple clamp.
Hope that makes sense.

Hope that makes sense. It does and thanks.......just got to work out how to cut fairing to get them to fit without making a mess.

You answered while I was adding a pic to the post above to show the pro taper adaptors.
So go back two post to see one, that is if you have not seen one before.

Gidday,
Did the handle bar change to the SV1KS about a year ago - what a buzz to ride now, very easy to flick around and no fore arm pump.
I used Zeus bars and mounts bought from Cycletreads, you are going to have to lengthen the wiring and the brake and clutch hoses, but you may get away with re-routing the throttle cables (I've moved then to go between the tank and the frame since these photo's.

All up cost was $400 - $500 inc braided hoses - some of the best money I've ever spent on my bike.
Cheers

How does a set of bars make it unstable?
I've had to adapt my riding style on the Ape cos the extra leverage available means any nervous twitches translate into front wheel movement. No room for tension in the upper body and if I'm pushing along it's best to be getting my weight forward and not use my arms too much to hold onto the bike. Any wind buffetting can be amplified straight through the bars, and hard braking or accelleration is best done when I'm not sitting upright. It can get a bit pendulum-esque. It has certainly smoothed out my riding style. It's nice having the leverage too.

You could always do what Ive just done and get a set of Tommaselli clip ons, as well as the normal up/down and rotate the whole clip on you can also rotate the bar forwards and backwards and up and down relative to the clamp. Allows you to put it in practically any position that the rest of the bike allows.
Check my thread about them

the problem with going through the triple clamp is that if you decide you don't like it you're gonna be left with a couple of potentially ugly holes. Mind you if it was tidy you could pass them off as speed holes.
The raised bars definitely make the front wheel lighter, that's one reasons that I prefer the std bars, to me it feels like the front wheel is planted better. However the upright riding position is a bit more relaxing. I've not spent much time on the gf's bike though. How are you guys finding the wind at open road speeds? Potentially the screen could be a bit low for upright riding.
