Hi All,

I have been making preparations for the arrival of my new bike and top of the list is security! After a bit of looking around, I decided to put a ground anchor on the car pad and buy a chain and lock.

I liked the look of the Xena stuff for a couple of reasons:

1. The discklock has an alarm, which will stop me riding off with it attached!
2. With the Claw adapter the disklock can be used as a lock with the chain, this means one lock and one set of keys.

So I bought a Xena XN15 disklock from Trade Me. The guy also had the other stuff I was after and gave me a great deal! Around $250 for Chain, Disklock, Claw and Ground anchor.

Once I got it, I put it all together, unfortunatley the Claw didn't fit into the disklock at first. Once I had a close look I noticed some rough casting bits that could be cleaned up a bit more. So I gave it 20 mins with a file and it now fits great.

The lock and claw are both made of cast stainless and are heavy and very solid. The chain is a good size and is covered in a nice textile tube, it also came with a bag.

The alarm is very sensitive and I set it off quite a few times when getting the claw to fit. I found that covering the X hole on the top muted it considerably which is less than ideal. But it would still sound for a few seconds before someone thought to cover it I reckon.

I have attached some photos so you can see it all together.

The dog wasn't included but I will post a review of it if I ever get it working correctly :-)

How heavy is it? Looks a bit chunky to want to bring along with you anywhere - maybe just good for when you are going on holiday and leaving the bike at home?

Looks good, and with the amount of bikes stolen lately a good thing to have.

The disk lock is just under 1 KG so it's not too bad, but I wouldn't take the chain and claw with me :-)

ditto that, can recommend the XN15, a darn solid hunk of stainless steel with good double action lock, and reasonable alarm volume to make one look if the bike is interfered with.

Mark I'll sort you out with a ground anchor you'll get away with in a flat (can be put back sweet as) if you want?

Does the landlord check often (can't because your still there!) or will it just need to be all G at the end of tenancy? PM me if your keen

That looks very similar to the XN15, just a bit smaller. I think if I was buying again I would go for the 14. Not sure why the 15 is so big.

Man, I would really like to hear one of these things go off!

I always worry that the what they claim on the packaging is just some marketing fluff.

The alarm although it says 110db is reasonable but not like a building alarm... its enough to make people look to see whats going on but it aint ear shattering

Does anyone know where I can get one of these beasties?
TradeMe does not list them.

Trademe does have them, I think you just need to keep an eye out.

Was lucky enough to nab a 2nd hand one for $20, but there is a good supply of the 14's from up north.
