A nine-year-old child escaped serious injury after being involved in a crash during a motorcycle pub crawl in Wairarapa. Less than an hour later, another bike crashed.
Police have questioned the bikers' attitudes in riding from pub to pub, reportedly at high speeds.
The child was a passenger on a motorcycle that hit a barrier before colliding with bikers turning into the third pub of the day.
The boy was thrown clear and suffered minor scratches, but the rider was taken to Wairarapa Hospital with a head injury.
Police are considering what charges may be laid.
Masterton police had received complaints concerning about 15 to 20 bikers allegedly speeding when they were alerted to the first crash, at 5.38pm on Saturday.
The group had been to the Gladstone Inn and Buckhorn Bar in Carterton before arriving at the Taratahi Hotel, north of Carterton, where the accident happened.
Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said that a while later, a witness had seen a rider on a Ducati roar off, allegedly at up to 200kmh.
"He lost control as he entered the Clareville corner and grounded the bike, sliding about 130 metres before landing in a paddock."
The rider, 32, of Masterton, suffered minor injuries.
Alcohol was thought to be factor in the crash and charges were likely to be laid, Mr Burr said.

Jeez, I really don't understand why you would do a pub crawl on a bike with a kid. I like a drink as much as most people, but the last thing I want to do is write my bike off even though it's a piece of shit and hurt someone. The guy is gonna be in a heap of shit now for drink driving, (maybe) speeding, atleast dangerous driving. Way to ruin what was supposed to be a fun weekend.

Yeah drinking and riding two very entertaining passtimes - doesn't mix though.
That kid should have had a "I'm with stoopid" T-shirt I reckon.

Choice. These retard bikers seem determined to make police patrol those Wairarapa backroads, which is gonna SUCK. There is already a campaign by residents in the Sth Wairarapa area to have bikers policed on these roads... I'm sure there are plenty of sensible bikers from the Wairarapa but fuckwits like this deserve a hiding.
/end rant!

I'm not that fussed about the pissed twats writing themselves off (except for the bad image they project) but the youngster probably had no say in the matter. We've taken our kids on poker runs and other pub-crawling rides but just because you're in a pub doesn't mean you have to drink alcohol. (It's actually interesting to see which bars can pour a nice lemon, lime and bitters.)
In fact, the last pub-crawling poker run I went on they skipped the last pub for two reasons; 1) Less opportunities for the boozers to drink and ride like cabbages and 2)The final destination was the over-night spot with booze available, which made things safer and generated a few extra dollars for the event.
Some people have their act together, some don't.

Alcohol was thought to be factor in the crash
I do wonder if that is solely due to them having been at a boozer or whether there was some sort of test performed (in which case i would have thought it would have been proven by now).

Seriously bad call. Hope they are reading this thread and realise the harm they have done to the biker community.
