A nine-year-old child escaped serious injury after being involved in a crash during a motorcycle pub crawl in Wairarapa. Less than an hour later, another bike crashed.
Police have questioned the bikers' attitudes in riding from pub to pub, reportedly at high speeds.
The child was a passenger on a motorcycle that hit a barrier before colliding with bikers turning into the third pub of the day.
The boy was thrown clear and suffered minor scratches, but the rider was taken to Wairarapa Hospital with a head injury.
Police are considering what charges may be laid.
Masterton police had received complaints concerning about 15 to 20 bikers allegedly speeding when they were alerted to the first crash, at 5.38pm on Saturday.
The group had been to the Gladstone Inn and Buckhorn Bar in Carterton before arriving at the Taratahi Hotel, north of Carterton, where the accident happened.
Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said that a while later, a witness had seen a rider on a Ducati roar off, allegedly at up to 200kmh.
"He lost control as he entered the Clareville corner and grounded the bike, sliding about 130 metres before landing in a paddock."
The rider, 32, of Masterton, suffered minor injuries.
Alcohol was thought to be factor in the crash and charges were likely to be laid, Mr Burr said.
