Was just looking thru trademe for GPS stuff, came across this auction:

Did a quick search to get some reviews and the first link was this:

I dunno if the products sold are identical, but if so, motorcyclists purchasing them could be at risk. Whaddya reckon? I would have emailed the seller straight away to ask, but that isn't possible ...

p.s for those too lazy to link, the auction is for stick on visor inserts, that appear to have been "responsible" for crashes in the UK (owing to the fact they cut out 94% of ambient light!). They aren't illegal tho...

The UK have been banging on about ALL tinted visors for yonks.

I wear perscrition glasses and I reckon in our sunlight conditions a tinted visor is brilliant! Sure, if you wore one at midnight in a coalmine while riding a 1908 Spagthorpe Weezehound equipped with acetlyne lamps with tarnished reflectors and badly trimmed wicks you might have issues but it come down to common sense.

These things you describe are not tinted visors but some sort of stick on thing. Probably not dissimilar to a fog city insert or summat. I presume they will work fine as long as you use some common sense. (there is that word again)

Of course what will happen is some dipshit will fall of their turgid pile of overpowered crap that they have not taken the time to learn properly and blame the visor while holding a hand out for compo and screwing it for the rest of us.

I say, let's not let this happen to our beloved tinted visors. Let's kill these people NOW while we have the chance and what's more! I have a LIST!!!! :whistle: (ok - going nowhere with this now)

I'm a bit of a fan of common sense myself Paul.... and i've got no idea of the history of British attitude to tinted visors (you didn't mention who in the UK had the issues????) nor have i a problem with the concept - i wanna buy some, but they remove 94% of ambient light (the brand in question).

Again, i have no problem with tinted visors, i want to buy some, i was just concerne that some internet capatilist(?) was flogging crap they can't sell for legal reasons in other countries, and riders here would reap the benefits... and now i have to die.... :weep:

$60 for 2? Fuck off! I paid like, $10 for a pair.

In the UK (if I remember rightly) inserts are legal up to a 40% tint, which the Motrax are. 40% aint that mutch. Besides, if you do have to ride in the dark, stop and take the insert out. You can always put it back in later.

The only downer is that you have to cut notches out of them so that they'll bend around the inside of your visor enough for you to be able to close the thing!

Cheaper than a second, tinted visor (but not at those stupid prices). I use them and would recomend them.

I think the best solution is a completely sealed helmet, with a wrap-around lcd panel inside, which relays camera feed from all directions of the bike :shutup:

Absolutley a wank from someone. 4% light transmission is firmly in the realm of arc welding visors, not crash helmet visors.

Careful with the sun block if it comnines with sewat and runs in your eye that can blind you as badly as a black visor down a coal mine :eek:
