Well new to me, its a 2005 which has done 4000kms. Bit of a story behind it... I found it on trademe, followed up and ended up been the highest bidder at $7300. Mean deal i thought. Decided to call the seller as i didn't here anything all day from them only to find out from the girlfriend that they had a barny and the last thing she saw was him riding off on the bike a week before with no contact since. She reckoned he had gone back to aussie!

Bugger i thought and basically wrote the purchase off. I was browsing the motorcycle trader site a few days later and what'd ya know it popped up in a New Plymouth dealership. I emailed the shop explained the situation and received a call first thing the following day offering the bike which they had listed at 9k to me for 8k. Fair deal i though under the circumstances and picked up the bike half way at Otorohonga on labour day!

So big ups to Craig at Energy Honda for been a good sport about the whole thing and taking the time on a public holiday to deliver the bike!

So i now have a new M50 have sold my Intruder to Donor and contrary to my post from last week (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=59172) am on the lookout for some louder (but not to loud) pipes. The stock pipes are just a little quiet for me but i've heard good things about the V&H Cruzers/Straightshots.....

One stop shop for all your cruiser needs:
www.cruisercustomizing.com

I just LLLLLLOOOOVVVE how you can register, put in what bike you have, and from then on you can search for parts that fit your bike.

Congrats! Hope you enjoy it. I thought they were relatively uncommon, but saw two today (OK one may have been a Marauder, as I saw it from a bit further away)...

Ha - I park my black M50 next to another black M50. Common as muck! Actually, not too common. I love mine. I have the V&H Cruzers but as standard they are very loud. Too loud for me, so I had WMCs weld a simple tube into the baffle and they're now loud but not too loud. Stealth mode (easy on the throttle) or blip the throttle for a wicked blast - just perfect and no performance loss. I'm also running the Cobra FI manager (to match the pipes) and have removed the PAIR valve (for looks and stops backfiring on the overrun).

Check out M50 Secret Hideaway (http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/forum/marauder-m50-secret-hideaway), the best forum I've found so far for the M50. Lots and lots of technical information about mods, eg some guys in the states run open pipes which must be absolutely crazy loud.

In the pics (from the M50 forum above), the first silver bike has a Kuryakyn Hypercharger intake. Looks good but absolutely wicked in black crackle finish but they don't make a black one for M50s, only Harleys.

Black hypercharger:

But isnt that the HD one? - I dont think it would fit on the M50 (from what I have read)

as above. Still thinking about what a nice intake would be. The Thunder Hurricane would go with the 'drag bike' ethos:

Congrats on your M50 purchase Mr markl. You have made a fine choice and I'm sure you will enjoy it. I took a test ride on one of those before I got my current bike. I understand what you say about the sedate sounding exhausts.

I fitted Cobra Slashdowns on my bike. Awesome sound. Loud but music to the ears. Ride easy around neighbourhoods as not to annoy people and no-one will get upset.

I'll post some pics on the weekend. I'm really enjoying this bike, looking foward to getting out on the open road!

I spoke to warren at virgin mufflers and he said he could from what i understand rip the guts out of my stock pipes and put a new baffle in to suit the loudness i'm after. Has anybody done this before? I'm wondering what the diff in performance would be compared to aftermarket exhausts. I actually quite like the look of the stock pipes so wouldn't mind keeping them, i guess the sound of the altered pipes is a bit of an unknown and a bit of a risk but i guess you got to trust the guy, it is his job....

HERE (http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/forum/marauder-m50-secret-hideaway/8934-drilled-pipes.html) is a link with all the info you could want on this - along with a video (post 27 from memory) - good luck.

the v&h look good but you may get abit sick of the noise ,have fiited a couple of sets to M50 with air cleaner and both have ran abit rough almost need a power commander.I think custom chambers make a good pipe and can make as loud as you want, have sold a couple of these and fitted them with no problems, much large header pipes, chrome shelds etc abit dearer though.

<snip>much large header pipes

That's actually a good point - the actual diameter of the standard headers is only 2/3 of the apparent diameter. They're much thinner than the heat shield and although they probably work well, the V&H are only slightly smaller than the heat shield. If you feel behind the heat shield on the standard pipes (when the engine's cold), you get the idea.

The other thing to consider is the O2 sensor. V&H and other off-the-shelf pipes don't have provision for them. I'm running without the sensor, but the FI light stays on. MIght resolve that this weekend if I can pick up some mig gas.

And here are the pics....

Had a recomendation to use Brite Shine on the pipes and chrome bits. This stuff is awsome, takes off all the tar and crap really easy and leaves sparkling. You can pick it up from supercheap if anyone is interested, yellow container and goes for around $10

Awesome bike dude, well done, I'll give Brite Shine a try, always on the lookout for something to take the shit of my pipes.

Yup yup... bought a tin yesterday on the way home from your place, and have just spent a good 45 mins with Blue Thunder (Simon, guy who rode the VS home) polishing, Autosol-ing and Brite Shining the bike... damn, I thought it was tidy before (and it was, no more than usual road grime from the journey home) but the Brite Shine has just worked wonders on the chrome bits!

The backs of the mirrors, remember how they used to look like a matt type finish?

Well, they now show reflection - this stuff is bloody fantastic, and a tiny tuft of it goes a LOOOOONG bloody way too!

*DISCLAIMER: No, I don't work for Supercheap, nor do I have any shares or interests in Brite SHine or its associated subsidiaries/partners. But I wouldn't mind buying shares after today!*
