Why did nobody tell me sooner that a cruiser is VASTLY superior to one of those whiny bloody sprots things?

I have clocked up a few hundred km in the last week, and I just don't wanna stop!

And even better - I got to have a sit on the new C109R at Big Boys Toys yesterday - just about had to pull me jacket over the front of me trou when I got off, that is a SEXY bike!

Just need to sort a problem with the cooling fan not running, other than that the 700 is a beautiful creature

(Oh, anyone electrically inclined/wanna free COLD beer? :D)

Cruisers are the way to go:drool:You don't see many Cruiser riders switching back to Sporties. And it's not just older riders that enjoy the benefit of the cruiser ride. You still got the power, you got the comfort and the most important thing, the road. Go the Cruisers:clap:

Exactly what I found after riding four sports bikes and then falling for the monster M109R muscle cruiser. Bling for converting to a cruiser mate. Looking forward to seeing you and the new bike around sometime.

UM..... I hope you used a rag to clean up after you got off. ;)

Very true! I am only 35 and love having a cruiser with a bit of mongrel attitude to it. And it has a different look, whereas most sportsbikes are much of a muchness.

Being currently at the stage where sportbikes are hurting me and I'm looking for an alternative for road riding, I'd be interested to hear whether you checked out a range of different non-sportbike options (motards, 'standards' like the XJs and the CBs, tourers, semi-tards like the Brutale and the Superduke, etc) after deciding to move on, or was it for you very much about a direct attraction to the cruiser style?

Thanks to the Motorcycle press you'd be forgiven for thinking that there are only three types of bike available:

Sprotsbike
Cruiser
Dirt Bike and related brethrenThere's vastly more choice out there, but it all comes down to ego, bling, or peer pressure in the end.

Break the frikking mold already!

Tried heaps of bikes out - can't remember all the types. Um, blackbird, VTX, several daytonas and triumphs, some semi tourers - can't remember them all - my memory is fading. Mainly to see what shape fit best for comfort etc. Some of the more upright 'semi tourer' bikes felt guttless after my GSXR1000K6 so I really needed something with torque and wanted a bike that was a bit different to mainstream bikes but comfortable to ride. Also found some of the screens annoying as they deflected wind vibration into my helmet because of my height.

I rooted my back and neck in a car crash years back (old lady driver turned in front of me when I was coming along a clear dry straight road at 100km/h) ... and found the sportsbikes too hard on my injuries after an hour or so riding. I find the reach and seat position aggressive on the M109R and it certainly fits the "muscle cruiser" title and has some wicked roll on power that leaves you gripping on if you open it right out.

Rode a GSXR600 during a service and felt that was like humping a coffee table after the 109. The 600 was gutless, way too small, revvy and slow by comparison.

A standard like the Bonnie, or such as the XJ's, Bandits, etc. would probably be comfy enough. For me it was that all my family and friends were on cruisers anyway and I liked the style, then when Matthew at Bikesport on Helensville offered me an on-road price for the Boulevard that made my jaw drop a bit, I decided on a cruiser. Very happy, I must say!

no-ones bashed the cruisers yet... so why not...

Cruisers are superior? pah... I almost sent one down the road TWICE in one day, coz it wouldn't brake properly. The second time I had it so far sideways that I felt it leaning over and found myself counter steering  No idea how I kept it upright really... but the car behind left me a huge gap after that.

Being a strict sports-tour man myself, I will shamefully admit that when Donor let me put a leg over his steed.. it only took a few minutes before I 'got' why people ride cruisers. It definitely has a more consistant feel of freedom, that's for sure.

I'd buy me one if I had the moolah, but I just lurve destroying my back too much :D

And these cruisers rides :Offtopic:, are they restricted to just cruisers? I'm not much of a speed demon, much prefer to cruise (heh) and take in the scenery and ride in group rides, than having my knee kiss asphalt 24/7.

I was/am a sports-tourer man too, it took me a while to 'get' the cruiser thing as well, cruisers were a bit odd, feet out front sitting upright relatively slow by comaprison to a sports-tourer or so I thought. That impression was so wrong, the whole concept of a cruiser is totally different to anything else on two wheels. Speed doesn't come into it, it's not the destination thats important, its the getting there thats the fun, riding solo , two up or in a group the grin factor is there no matter where you go :msn-wink:

Yeah, although all I did was go around the block.. the bike had quite a lot of pep and I was just enjoying the ride rather than thinking about tackling the next corner etc.. so in that sense it had more of a feeling of freedom. Apart from the people who don't wave to me when I wave to them while riding (:() cruiser people seem to be friendly and more laid back.

Not that I'm disrespecting sports bikes, I own one myself and will for the rest of my life.. but yeah, It's nice to have some variety ! So I'll have to tag along on one of these cruiser rides one day, and try be as inconspicuous as possible hehe

Next time MOM you can take my VTX for a ride on your own, you will be pleasantly surprised @ how easy she is to handle. As you have said the weight is all down low & so is the seat height so stopping anywhere will be a lot easier for you than on a conventional bike. Don't forget you are comparing your 600cc yamaha against my 1800cc honda, the weight of my one is obviously going to be more. If you get the chance ride a cruiser of a similar cc rating to the bike you currently own & then compare . Power output will be similar on the road & you will be able to touch the ground with ease when stopped & pushing it back into a park will be so much easier. The fact that cruisers look better helps too :dodge:

If I remember right you were riding a small cruiser, you also ride for the thrill of speed. That's where you are at the moment, a sports bike suits who you are @ this time.
When you have lost a few mates & have got to know most of the local constabulary on a first name basis, possibly lost your license & paid more in fines than the bike is worth you will start to question why you ride this style of bike & what you have gained from all the grief you have had because you ride the bike like it is ment to be ridden. When you reach this level then a cruiser suddenly seems a lot better option than a sports machine.

Please don't look on this as a shot @ you or sportsbikes it is not intended as one:cool:

Don't know about the "so good compared to ..." part, I'd think each to their own. But after riding a Katana 650 for a while the cruiser's seating position is much better for my back. However it's harder to get off my bum onto the footpegs while going over major bumps - almost impossible I've found. (So now I try hard not to go over any.) They're also "different" to get around corners - more like a Rolls or Bentley - but give a more sedate ride. I've found sports bike "busy". Guess it might be an age thing, or even perhaps a "returned biker" thing - don't really know. I know I feel more comfortable - mentally and physically - on my cruiser than on my son-in-law's Ducati 904.

missed one major thing , chicks love big v twin cruisers:yes:.Sportsbike look very much the same as the rider tends to blend into the bike .Bike and rider are as one ,most cases a blur, cruiser riders sit up right and bike and rider just look so relaxed .My i say it, just bloody cool:rockon:

...i went back to a sports type bike as soon as i could, and that wasn't soon enough!
someone please make me understand why they are so good compared a sportsbike?

...yes, i did a wheelie on the motorway (1st gear) (30kph) and a rolling stoppie, and about 6 other wheelies (snip)
yes we acted like retards...
yes, i am sorry

I guess some people just don't suit cruisers, and vice versa? ...Never mind.

For me personally, I simply prefer to sit up like a King rather than to crouch down like a Queen. Plus my significant other likes to ride pillion, and that just looks uncomfortable and not very friendly on a sportbike?

My bike is a comfy thing to ride, not a sit back thing, no lean forward thing but a nice posture, no sore back, no sore bum...suits me, for the now.

After years of riding alsorts of bikes from dirt to sport to cruiser, I think the cruiser takes more skill to ride properly, Reading Lines, cambers as well as speed and braking all need finer margins when you stoke it along, Yes they are more comfortable and easier on the body as one ages as well, though with increased weights they also require fitness and strength. The ride experience is more enjoyable. Depending on the size, power and torque can be just as exillerating as a high powered sporty.
And ofcourse a major consideration on tour is the ability to carry as much as you like, and arrive at the destination as fresh as when you left..
That said, I still occassionally get the urge to take out a sporty for a 30 minute blast.

Really depends what you consider a "sportsbike"? Also depends on specific bikes. The 03-04 636 has a very good pillion seat... the 04-05 zx10 has a shocker. Do you consider the blackbird a sportbike perhaps? Biiiiiig variety.

Having tried a blackbird, and pegged it, I can firmly say I am not yet in the mindset for something with even less clearance  One thing I did find you guys should be wary with, is the yamaha dragstar 650 I had as a loaner was shocking for posture, and I found I got a fair amount of lower back pain, from the curvature of my spine. I hear other cruisers can have that issue... so something you do need to take seriously. Taking shocks on the spine where it is curved ain't good for it.

missed one major thing , chicks love big v twin cruisers:yes:.Sportsbike look very much the same as the rider tends to blend into the bike .Bike and rider are as one ,most cases a blur, cruiser riders sit up right and bike and rider just look so relaxed .My i say it, just bloody cool:rockon:

Good point - forgot about that. Another thing: saw a sports the other day with the pillion perched so high above the rider they looked very uncomfortable - like sitting on the top rung of a gate swinging wildly in the wind. (Silent thought ... cruiser pillions usually only need one change of underwear per day - wonder how many changes sports bike pillions need?) :jerry:
