Go - Back - To - Where - You - Bought - The Bike.
Let them know your current circumstances, and see if they can be reasonable about it. The lesson is of course, don't buy the shiney thing until it is exactly as you want it.

Just checking with a mate who has some clearance specials hanging about. I'll let you know in 10 mins what he's got. He's also pricing up a rear Pirelli GTS for you as well.

No you don't...
You have something real CHEAP... You don't like it. What you want is something real INEXPENSIVE...
Unless the tyre actually lets go, most of it's in the mind or down to tyre pressure. I know a lot of Guzzi people in the US have used the old stinkos and think they are OK. They do big miles too...

I never had any problems with Shinkos on my old ZXR, I rode it pretty hard too... there are, like any brand, different types of Shinko, sporty and touring... You get what you pay for. I wouldn't run them down too much.
Oh, and having a different front from rear profile can cause dodgy handling, but the rear shouldn't be letting go...
Hmmm, you bought a Ducati, have you checked for oil leaks on to the tyre ?
Heh heh.

One of the Duke people would know but I'd think 38 psi or so?
Cheers
PS - It should not let go with the modest power you are giving it...

Thats what I thought... and what makes me think its a shite tyre... wasn't even going fast, not used to the bike and all... front sticks real well.. back doesn't like water or white lines... :spudwhat: Might have to play with pressures a bit and see what i can come up with!
I'll have to bring it around and show you one day :2thumbsup

They do big miles too...I had Shinko Podiums (or was that "Poodiums"?) on my VFR, and while they never really let go, they didn't feel very good either, so I never pushed them hard enough to see what their limits were.
In fact, I was thinking about it after riding to work in the water, and I've never had ANY 'moments' in the wet, apart from braking on a big white direction arrow on my Elsinore, with knobblies on, and that was Fun! rather than Fark!
I have had a few spin-ups in the wet or damp though, but that's been on all sorts of tyres, and due to the road surface more than the tyre.

I'd like to see it...
Vicki is away this weekend so i will be mowing lawns and washing the Guzzi after it's big trip (plus fixin the oil leaks )
Try lowering the pressure, perhaps it's not heating up enough...
Whats more of a worry.. Who the $%^k would put a Stinko on a Ducati? If so, what else did they skimp on??
Cheers

Um dude 38psi sounds pretty darn high-especially on a bike with light weight and not much power. Try backing the cold pressure off to 34 psi

What did you have on your CBR400RR? Maybe swap it over from that? Geez $9500 for a 600SS and its got mis matched tyres, and a Shinko at that! Tell me, was it just the name on the tank you were buying???
PS, that tyre is the same size as a rear for a SV650 so you maybe able to pick up a S/H race tyre.

Just having a quick gawk on local wreckers site. Only 160x17 is a Metz ME55. It is cheap & they are ok in the wet, but more a touring tyre. depends how long yo want to put it off.
preloved tyres click here (http://www.motorcyclesnz.co.nz/tyres1.html#Road%20Tyres,%20Rear,%2017")

I've had a Shinko on the rear, great in dry conditions (once hot), dodgy in the wet tho. Would never put one on the front, just not enough confidence in the tyre.
I have a Avon Azaro on the back at the moment, real scary, nearly highsided myself a couple of times comming back from Rotorua.
Probaly take the twin out to Raglan for a thrash this weekend, try and get some heat into the Avon, see if it sticks.
