Ducunty 748 cutting out after about 6 laps of practise so I asked nicely and the organisers let me enter Pre 89 on the CBR as well as F3.
Gotta say, complete different kettle of fish going out with the F2/F1. Hell, I think most of the SV650's passed me too. Ho hum...DEFINITELY bitten off more than I can chew.
Anyways, a bizarre start in Pre 89 left me and most of the other riders sat on the grid watching the guy holding the red flag in front of us while the first 8 or so bikes buggered off. Nobody seemed to know where to start either. By the time the first bikes were at T1 myself and a few others thought "f#ck this" and launched. Crazy.
Anyways, the CBR felt surprisingly good (considering I hadn't took it out in practise). I'm no fan of Taupo but was enjoying it. Started reeling in bikes. Got up to 4th pretty sharpish. Battled up to 2nd place. Not really pushing the CBR. Scrawped boots a few times (old habits die hard). Slowly pulling gap on leader but thinking I'm going to run out of laps. "hey...I could win my first non-clubmans race" thinks I. Lap 7 or 8, turn 6 left hand hairpin and the only thing I won was my first ever lowside. Picked up bike, unrideable...bugger. Maybe I should get crash bars. Standing in the hot sun watching all the bikes I'd fought hard to pass was really depressing. :weep::weep:
Spent most of the day blagging bits etc to get the thing going again. Thanks to the Pomm on the blue R1 (I'm hellish with names) and a kiwibiker who dropped my forks. Took her out in the last F3 race but she just felt awful...think I finished 4th from the back or summit. Didn't bother checking. Inspected the CBR a bit more when I got back and it looks like the forks are bent. Wish I knew why the front let go.
A strange day that could have ended really well but all turned to $hite. I guess that's what keeps racing interesting.
