just curious as to how fast you all ride?.

i live on a rural windy road ( roads in good nick)
this morning 4 bikes flew past my house ,
its the fastest ive seen bikes go on the road.
i heard them coming ages away then they came screaming past.
i wouldnt have a clue how fast they were going but it was way fast.
then about 5 mins later another few bikes came thrugh they were still quick but heaps slower than the first 4,
then another 5 mins a heap more came through , i.d say they were probably going 120.
but the first 4 were flying .
so just curious as to what speed you all ride on a back road thats in good nick and has heaps of windy parts .

I was pillion with a guy who was doing 230kph on some back roads! :innocent: Fastest I've managed to get my current bike was 120kph on a downhill straight

I wouldn't mind knowing how fast I'm going. The KX hasn't got a speedo

31st October 2004, 14:16
ummm, little embarrassed here but my bike has a few issues and so I don't really trust it too much, so I tend to do 100kms on the straights, a bit faster if it's up to it, and around 80kms thru the average corner, less for blind/tight ones

FROSTY

I wouldn't dream of exceeding the speed limit.50 in a 50 zone and 100 in a hundred --Honestly :Police:
On a closed road under controlled conditions mind you I soppose well I might manage 120 if I was riding a HONDA VFR or $140 on a suzuki --but on a kwakka --well thats different. perhaps speeds of over 260km/h might be possible

Sometimes going down a country road, I think why didn't I buy a Hayabusa? Then I relise I'm only 14, getting my licence next month, restricted to the 250cc rule and don't have 20 grand in my pocket.

Done about 110 on some back streets, really stupid I must say.

:niceone: thats about the right speed,so anywhere between 0-260kmh,I've only had mine up to 260kmh.

I try and keep to the speed limit but some times the Drake has a mind of his own. The beast just does not like being pulled back. Bit like the dog but there are times when you have to show who is the master.

Alright now we are coming clean... Im going to be honest, im not a law abiding biker, but im not a completely stupid one (insane..... yes)..... On the ZXR400, i was generally around the 160 mark and 180 mark around most corners probably hit about 210-220...

Fastest ive been on the road is 245kmh, anything over 200kmh is fucking quick (and you will be fucked if you crash)

But in the cities, i actually am generally a law abiding biker, there are too many variables and the risks are too high....

Speeding is fucking stupid..... Thats why i try and only go hard on the track...... but ofcourse the fuckers had to close the track....... DURING THE SUMMER!!!!!! :angry2:

Not as fast as Dangerous.... :shake: yet.....

As for above, good call ...it depends... if it's a set of twisties you know, and you're sure of the conditions, you'll go quicker. If it's a new road or things are dicey, you slow down. Round town i aim for speed limit + 7-8 km/h Max.

I'm still setting the bike up (suzuki sell them thinking 40kg jockies will ride them, without accelerating or braking i reckon - shocking).

Group rides tend you get you into uncomfortable stuff more often than not i find... the main difficulty (for me) is concentrating on the road and not so much the bike in front - who might have got it all wrong.

What do you mean ha I never speed

Mr Skid
31st October 2004, 16:57
Depends whether I'm riding with others, and the reputed level of enforcement on a particular back road.

If I'm with a group who are riding faster than me then I'll open it up (up to 109km/h in a 100km/h zone of course), working on the 'first in line gets the fine' theory.

If I'm by myself then usually stick to 100ish as I don't find it a challenge going quick in a straight line.

I stay below 110kph with the occasional passing manouver taking me to 120-130.
The bike is geared for just under 160kph anyway.

Eltham Road is down hill to Opunake, after coming all the way from Auckland,I roll off the gas and it feels like the bike is just racing to Opunake on it's own accord, carrying me the last few km by itself.

I sit somewhere between 100 and 120 depending on bike and conditions - speeds above 120kph don't thrill me I'm afraid, all my fun is had in the twisties and on gravel,I was the same even when younger...born a doddery old fart.

Move south our track is never closed and it's got more corners than that shithole:shifty:

Normally when I'm travelling I don't go much over 110km,ocasionally I might give it a bit of a wind up but no more than 150km and thats around back roads not main highways I'm very careful when and where I exceed the posted limits

Eltham Road is down hill to Opunake
I presume you mean the Eltham-Opunake Road? It isn't that downhill -- it's largely flat, apart from the dip over the Kapuni River. Eltham is about 300' above sea-level and Opunake township about 100'. The highest point on this road would be somewhere between Mangatoki and Kaponga -- probably about 700-750'. In fact most of the road from Mangatoki to Riverlea would be more than 450'.

I don't want to tell a Naki boy about his home patch - but the road from Opunake to Etham is called the Eltham Rd,Opunake Rd branches off and goes to Stratford. After Kaponga it seems to be all down hill to me,or atleast to my tired old bones and bikes. All the roads leading down off Wiremu road are down hill, and we used to nail it the whole way, scary and stupid on those narrow roads with wandering stock and tractors.

On my road which is a long rural road I try and go as fast as my little 150cc will go :devil2: which thinking about it now isnt all too fast, about 110 - 125 on the straights and 90 on the long corners. But in normal roads and the motorway I generally follow the speed limit, give or take (usually give).

220km A couple of times but really exceed 110 cursing speed (cept for overtaking maybe) In built up areas I keep it at the legal limit as you never know what's around the next corner.

if i have a bit of a shitty day and go for a blast i drive around the back of Mystry Creek. very straight... i normally i give it nuts until i cant bear the noise of the wind/bike any more. have seen speeds of just touching $2.60, but with ear plugs, hmmm... my speedo goes to 280, might get close. dont know how accurate it is at those speeds tho. i have the standard tyre sizes but you just never know, would be keen to goto a drag day and see.

Whatever's dictated by the sight lines (my desire to stay alive) and my desire to keep my license.

Hitting corners nice and quick is fun. Straight line speed doesn't thrill me and never really has; any idiot can point a car or bike down a straight road and open the throttle.

90-120 any more than that the bugs hurt to much.

I have to agree Jr, plus my arse was fair puckering on the straight bit near Lumsden on the weekend when a pair of plovers standing on the road decided to launch into the air just as I got close, my first thoughts were "fark, if I clean one of these up it's gonna sting a lot harder than any bumble-bee I've hit", just missed them but 'twas on a nice straight bit of road where I'm sure others would have been going at warp-factor 3+ and I'd hate to hit anything as large as a plover at THOSE speeds!!

That's the Stratford-Opunake road... (all these new fangled names -- they'll be calling The Mountain "Taranaki" next or something...) It's a brilliant ride -- the first stretch from Stratford to the cenotaph corner at Cardiff has some great ups and downs, before the road opens up with some great corners through Mahoe to the Dawson Falls intersection. From there, you're right, its largely downhill to Opunake, with some half-pie decent straights, but the best ride is to stay on the Wiremu Road and go round the mountain on the upper circuit -- taking the road up past Pukeiti and dropping down into New Plymouth via Plymouth Road, rather than heading back out to the coast road via Stoney River.

how fast? fast enough to get myself in trouble thats for sure and fast enough to try out the sliders on a good corner if I'm organised. I guess after a while when you do more and more silly speeds on the road, it doesn't seem silly any more and then when your mate passes you, the bounds of silliness look just a little further up the speedo.

...but I'm starting to think that the old 'there's a time and a place for everything' argument doesn't really hold up well in the light of 200kmhr+ speeds and inattentive cattle etc.

Well there was one time when I was in the back country when I thought I'd try and find out what I could get. I didn't get any change out of $1.72 - I'd been aiming for the $1.85 RRP.

Round town / where i live i keep to the speed limit (except outside CK's house and 2 other little roads i know) But on the open road i probably have toped out $2.20 and do a the sweepers usually over $1.00 :spudwave:

yeh i think it depends if your riding with someone, or just on your own.
I using cruise within the speedlimit (+-20ks) when im on my own. But if im riding with some bikes i just do what ever they do - usually the group i ride with does about 160-220ks. but on a few late night rides hme for work its usually hell for leather and the bike is pushed to whateve limit exists (my old RG got a good 220, GB got 160, and est my ZXR to be about 260 - oh yeh the old mans daytona *borrowed* did about 280)

Home straight has seen me at 130-135MPH (you can work out the K's:rolleyes: ) before I run out of road.

Top (so far) has been 150MPH. Fair shat myself the first time:sweatdrop . All I could think was: "All I need to go wrong now is one of those dopey Pukes on the side of the road to cross in front of me now and it would be:doh: :thud: :doctor: (where an Undertaker Smilies when you need one).

Normal for me on open road is 70-75MPH. If I'm try to get somewhere (long distances) on time 80+MPH. Cop heavy country (like Ruakaka/Waipu Straights) 60-70MPH (depending on view and mood).

Rides are bad for me because:

I hate being left behind:crybaby: .
I'm such a Nana on the corners:o
So I tend to open "Roxanne's" Throttle right up on the straights to catch-up
