Just discovered (from personal experience) that the 'new' xtra/Yahoo email is blocking loads of emails as spam! Including everything from yahoo.com! Useless twats.

If you have an Xtra email account that you use with outlook or similar - then you need to go online to your 'Yahoo Xtra bubble', and check EVERY message in the spam folder... Found quite a few emails (legit) from businesses that had been tagged as 'spam' and binned, as well as some emails I'd forwarded to myself from my yahoo.com email account. :angry2:
That's what got me looking - when my own emails didn't arrive...
Apparently, their (Yahoo's) spam filter just looks at the address of spam senders, then blocks ALL email from that HOST! INCLUDING THEMSELVES!

Piss me right off. I'd been wondering what had been happening to my emails.... Now I know.

Xtra's email is a good example of "If it ain't broke - don't fix it" in action.

Yep same here,I use inbox/outlook express but was having probs with large emails being sent with pics or attachments, checked with xtra, advised to try yahoo/xtra site, set it up for me,next day opened it and had about 50 bulk messages, flicked through them and some were not spam, most were.Have an original yahoo.com address and this gets maybe 1 or 2 a day,use it for trademe only so check it every day or so.The yahoo xtra is a pain, but when getting jokes sent they take up space so easy to download on yahoo.

I have been having that problem for months, same at work, and my sisters business... I don't use Outlook or Outlook Express but use Pegasus Mail and use my filters at a local level, but still have to look on line every now and then... other thing is my spam is now up 500%, (today there was 330 spam mails in a 24hr period and that only the one Xtra do actually catch that are spam) the quite annoying

Luckily I now maily use my own email server *@quantumillusions.com (I am willing to setup a couple for some here at KB if required to help PM me if you need one)... its a full pop, smtp. and you can check online webmail if needed.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I've just checked our Xtra Mail - 550 emails dating back to Nov 1. Amongst the viagra, penis growth, and on-line casino stuff, was an email from a business client, and a couple of moderator related emails from KB.

Hmmm, I'll be checking the web-mail more regularly...

Cheers.

Yeah was a pain alright, we use outlook also but discovered it not long after the change after missing
a number a important emails and sure enough all in the spam folder.
They said it wouldn't effect email in any way even if you don't register - Liars!:angry2:
Didn't want to register but had so we could get our emails, then tried to complain
but couldn't, no answer by phone and any email we sent just got bounced back.
Extra went from being a satisfactory service provider to the worst overnight,
and we still have problems with email:mad:

That is why I dumped Xtra.

Agreed, it is a bloody mess. At work we were getting hardly any spam but after the migration to Yahoo there are 20 - 50 spams emails a day. They don't all get through but as you've said, legitimate mail also goes into the Deleted folder on Webmail. That is the folder you need to check for missing email - on Webmail.

When you find one, there is a button - Not Spam - to teach the server to allow this address.

Bleugh... ISP email. POP3 is an abomination for a start, but I still wouldn't use it if my ISP offered IMAP.

Gmail. Swap ISPs all you like -- don't have to keep notifying everybody of your new address every time you change. POP3 and IMAP support for your iPhone/Crackberry. Never delete an email again -- 5443MB (and counting) of storage. Google's powerful search for your email archive.

But most pertinent to this thread, is possibly the world's best spam filter. I used to check the spam folder every day for false positives, but eventually gave up, as I never found one. Very occasional false negatives -- most users report none.

Go to the Yahoo web site (Yahoo.com, or Yahoo.co.nz), login as your email address (i.e. shafty@xtra.co.nz) password as for your xtra email. You may (probably will) have to stuff around joining 'Yahoo Bubble'. Go into the Yahoo web mail, and you'll find the Inbox, Spam, sent, and other folders. Check through the spam, any that aren't - click the 'Not Spam' button on the toolbar... they may get through after that.

odd, but in all the years Ive had xtra, ive only ONCE had a problem (that was a few months ago when they had their major stuff up with conversion from MSN to Yahoo bubble) my machines (4 standalone pcs and a server or two checl mail every 30 secs never a glitch, it flashes thru 6 accounts on this machine in am matter of a copule secs,
Makes me wonder if its your location thats the problem, maybe not in the major cities where we are close to exchanges etc. every time I see these posts I check the logs to find no difference.. I have sorted out a few mates systems that had trouble and never was it the ISP, xtra or ihug in those cases but rather configuration not correct, so check out the info already listed here, xtra nowe has varying server configs ports etc. read the blurb at their sites. As much as I hate xtra for ripping us off with miserable 2-8mb speed when most other developed nations run at least 24mb, they could do it if they wanted and surely will soon i will lay money now that compatition is close at heel.. But the service they do provide me while not 24mb is reliable compared to others I have used.

In my opinion xtra is just rubbish in general, most people just use it for ease of everything such as billing. There are plenty better ISPs out there.

sorry i said it wrong, i ment to say, when ur comp crashes and u have peg mail open, sometimes it doesnt know you have logged out, and when u open it again, you lose all ur email. all of them.

And i never found out how to back up ur email in .txt format.
