Hi all,

I am after an SV1000s, 2003 or newer, less than 20,000km's on the clock for under $10,000....

Anyone looking to sell or know of any good deals out there??

Thanks

Ideally you want an 05 onwards, as they came with a myriad of little changes.

There's plenty of good buys out there. Get an '06 or '07. I just bought an '07 with 5k on the clock for 10.5k, in the colour and with the pipes I wanted.

Id like an 05 onwards but theres this woman at home, shes there every day, and she keeps telling me I've "got to stay under $10,000"!!

Any 05's out there for under that I'd jump at for sure

They're common as much and only $12500 new, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find one :)

Yea your right, I will keep my eyes peeled, just need to be patient maybe, something I'm not that good at, i've been without a bike for almost a year now, I've finally got $$$$ and nothing to buy!!!!! hugely disappointing....

What is better about the 05 onwards model??? Just the fact that its newer technology or did they make some significant improvements worthy of convincing my wife its worth spending a few more dollars??

Ahhh, apparently '200' changes. The ECU is upgraded, the throttle bodies are bigger, the flywheel is lighter. A few more horsepower, but nothing to get excited about... might as well have them if they're on offer though.

Thanks for the advice :niceone:

If you are increasing your funding you may as well just get a new one

this ones been on trademe for a while. Perhaps an offer not far from the $10k mark would secure?

ooo you so dont fit in around here LOL - but no argument from me

... but what he said - yes! wait till end of year when next year's model is released, this years new bikes drop in price and the '06 model will also drop slightly.

Yea I have thought that, it seems so close yet so far away though, i worked my way up from $8k max, to 9 then onto $10k, i think she (wife) is starting to catch on to my game though!!

I have looked at this one, like it a lot, I have spoken to the guy, reckons he has bought a new bike so is prob quite keen to sell, will cost me $350 to get it to Welly so that pushes it up a bit.... $10k might be worth a cheeky offer though

Good point, probably the way to go

I don't consider 10K to be a cheeky offer on a bike that has "$10,700 or near offer" on it. Shit if I was selling something for 10,700 I snap 10k up if someone held the readies under my nose!!

Secondly have you tried/ridden an SV and its counterpart the VTR back to back. I don't want to bring a whole lot of angry SV owners down on me, but my mate has an 06 SV and I felt as if you sit "on it" rather than sit "in it" like when I was on my VTR. He quite liked the riding position on the VTR as well. He said it felt a bit more sport! The power felt a bit milder as well but his was completly Standard.
Just a few thoughts, no biggie, the above is personal preference only.

maybe $9000 is more "cheeky"???

Ive had a short ride on a SV, looking to have a longer ride in the next couple of weeks hopefully, haven't ridden a VTR, ive read a few forums on them being compared and it seems to be 50/50 (fair comment??), i just seem to be more drawn to the SV

Buy my traded 06 for $11K
http://www.motorad.co.nz/the5thdimension/vehiclelistings.asp?page_size=1&current_page=24&categoryID_list=20

It is in excellent condition and properly run in. I bit more than you wanted to pay but for a 13 month old bike with 10k.

Fly to auckland, get him to meet you at the airport and ride the thing back. That way you don't have to wait three weeks for the bike arrive and worrying about it being banged around in the back of a track. You'll also get a really sore arse, but thats an SV for you.

10k is a good offer for it considering what else is on offer, but ask him to ship the old pipes to you and deliver it to Auckland as part of the price.

You should definitely be able to get the SV you want for under 10k mate, if you are willing to be patient. Wait for one with the fruit on it too. Big bikes can be a hard sell at the moment. If you only have 10k to spend, subtract the cost of transport from your offer. He's allowed to say no and you're allowed to offer what you think it is worth.

I looked into flying up there and riding it back if i managed to secure, still on the cards for sure, I have a quote from Biketranz of $320 door to door, which doesn't seem too bad. It is bad if it will take 3 weeks though!

Funny you should say that, ive just done exactly that, deducted the costs of transport etc and fired in an offer on that SV on trademe.... it has a bit of "fruit" on it... will let you know how i get on

"the seat" gets another mention!! are they really bad?? i didn't notice, the ride was extremely short though, might have to add a nice big spongy fluffy cover.... or not

Yea hopefully i can work out a deal with the dude, im sooooo keen to get out and ride again!!!

Believe it mate. I don't know if it is the ride position or the foam, or a combination of both. I used to dread the ride from Otaki to Porirua after a ride north.

Cool I might just do that, depending on how my offer goes on this one up north, im actually moving to Masterton later this month so its handy to have a Suzuki dealer there if I do get an SV.

Thanks

Hmm yes that seat. Not the most comfortable in the world, however I have just spent 10 days cruising round the sout island on mine, and after the first two days I hardly noticed it, I just ajusted I guess.

The other option is to take to the Rider Seat guys in Tauranga and get them to work there magic.

Just checked out the Rider Seat website, definitely a better option than my spongy fluffy idea :niceone:

Hey bro, I reckon you should do a SV thread search within Kiwibiker as I recently had a massive thread on whole SV thing. Plus if you got any questions there's also the sv portal and check it out http://www.sv-portal.com/. Read up on all the info/shit you can on the SV1000 if you have the time, otherwise just go with your gut and buy the damm thing.

My recommendation is to ride the damm frikkin thing for an hour at least and hire it out if you have to aye. It's worth it and it helps you pinpoint your choices.

Cheers.

Don't get me wrong bro I've read the threads, especially the SV vs VTR ones, and I've visited SV portal a had a plow through the large quantities of material on there!!!

I am going with the gut as you say, I want to buy one but I'm just waiting for the "right" one to come along.

They're both going to give similar love, the VTR is just an ugly dated looking piece of crap is all

Spend your $10k on a GSXR750, latest one you can find. Oh, and kneesliders and tyres... you'll love it.

... theres this woman at home, shes there every day...

Hey Marc, do you have any plans to take that woman out on the back of your bike? She might see the value in it if she can have some fun times on it too :) Just be aware that the pillion seat on the SV is even smaller, harder and less comfy than the rider's seat so that's something to take into account if you'd like to go on longer trips with her on the back.

Almost two years ago now my partner rode out the driveway on his Gixxer one morning, and came back later on an SV! He absolutely loves it and hasn't regretted it for a minute. But gosh it's hard on my bum!

Getting my lady to ride anything, let alone the back of a bike is very difficult!!!

Shes confirmed that I will be doing my riding 1 up, at least for the next 20 years until the kids leave home....

Im still keen on an SV, if something comes along I'd be happy to spend my money!!!

Yea I was a bit disappointed as you might understand, but I'm over it now.

I liked the look eh, really mean looking, plus i thought the colour was fantastic, i know it probably wouldn't have been the best bike for the riding i will be doing (being a naked and most of my riding will be at 100kph+) but that didn't put me off at all... I don't really like nakeds, but the Z, to me, is distinctive & different from others on the market.

I am now re-opened for suggestions....

I dont mind disclosing at all mate, I ended up getting it for 9500 so was pretty happy with that, there was a blue one on tradme at the same time, he sold that for 9000, had about 11K on the clock (some "funnys" showed up on the VIR report for that one though!!! highly reccommend a VIR report for any bike your looking at)

I should have mine on the 15th of Jan, looking forward to it :niceone:

I have had a look at a few articles on DIY set-up but wouldn't mind having it done professionally first time round :2thumbsup
