I learned quite a bit about how hotels make their money yesterday.

Maha man and my good self :devil2: are coming to Welly Easter weekend to attend the big rock fest there. We want to stay somewhere that is walking distance to the stadium, so we asked and got some really good tips from a mate who lives down that way

One place sounded just the berries, so I rang and asked about booking a 2 night stay. Their standard room rates for any weekend is $128 per night, sweet methinks. Yes I would like to make a reservation please for March 22/23 2008. Certainly madam that will be a charge to your card of $578.00!! :shit:

After I picked myself up from the floor, where I had about fainted, I said, surely you have made a mistake there? No, but if you pay up front we will reduce the charge to $478.00. Gee thanks, but no thanks was my response to that. :oi-grr:

Several calls later I have made a reservation, confirmed and paid for costing $261.00 for the 2 nights.

Moral of the story, shop around! :2thumbsup

Moral of the story, shop around!

Always. And prepare your wallet for a jolly good rogering whenever an item is in demand.

I dont object to paying the price when it is something I really want to do, it is a calculated expense.

Interestingly enough both the first hotel, and the one we have booked at are what you would describe as "budget". All we wanted was a crash pad not too far to walk back to, as we wont have wheels down there.

I guess the place we have booked at have not got an onto it marketing manager, and are not aware yet of the concert. Too bad, we have paid and confirmed at that price, will be interested in finding out what the rates they charge for the weekend closer to the event.

I thought KBers didn't have to pay for accommodation?

We aways welcomed another bike into our garage and another body into the spare room when it was required.

Were surprised no one got in touch for the Burt Munro weekend though.

Geez! At that price you could have hired a camper van and driven all over the road at 60-70km there for the event!:devil2:
