I have been asked to source an A3 colour printer for use on site. Can you reccomend something? Obviously as value priced as possible preferably without the need to refill the machine with consumables every 2 minutes...

I have no knowledge of these things so any help would be appreciated...

I dunno? What do I want?
I don't to have to fark around with consumables every 2 minutes.
I want to print at A3.
Maybe 5 sheets a week.
It will be used pricincply for printing pics (photos)
Persentage of colour means what?
It mustn't cost a fortune.

Oh, that makes more sense... I assumed your boss must've pissed you off so you were thinking, 'I know what'll sort this prick out, I'll get him a printer that costs a fortune to run'

At such low volumes an Inkjet would be the way to go. You could get an inkjet for less than $1500 that'll do that if you avoid Hewlett Packard.

Go Epson. Canon is good too.

Once an office has something like that, they tend to use them more often than they would have before.

Ummmm...I know Col is gorgeous, but he is very much a he!!!!

Col, I'd take Edbear's offer...colour printing on A3 is definitely costly! :niceone:

Sounds like exactly what I need.

One issue I have with some inkjets is the ink is easily smudgable, the slightest hint of dampness, (drip of coffee/beer) and yer fooked, a serious shortcoming in this neck of the woods. Are some of 'em better in this regard than others?

Go Epson.
No no, not Epson. I had an Epson printer once, inexcusable piece of shit it was.

I was using a HP 9600 inkjet b4 I got my A3 colour laser. Still in the cupboard I think. It went well for me, printed plans great. Had no probs with it and the cartridges seemed to last ok. Jeepers you should be able to pickup one of those at a pretty good price. If its only for a few copies a week should be fine.
Looks like its turned into the 9800 http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/nz/en/ho/WF05a/1090037-1090093-1095469-1095469-1131191-12085171.html

I ran an Epson stylus pro XL for nearly 10 years as a commercial device. 1 set of print heads replaced in that time. Still got it.

If it was my small company for 5 sheets a week I would email a .pdf to a Bureau.

Sounds like an inkjet to me, whatever your preferred supplier has cheap. Overuse ain't an issue.

Changing cartridges - HTFU.

The unit at KR is network printer and photocopier all in one - that makes sense in a corporate (or mag).

And I happen to be a High-end Bureau... I could get you a price per copy if you want to email them.

Avoid ink-jet, it only looks cheap. Cost of colour lasers is dropping but still over $1k. Ours cost over $80k each for the A3 printers.

Can do up to 900mm wide (by however long) at a price... (Cost depends on how hot the chick in the picture is).

Ohhhhhh, didn't realise they were still made. Does that mean spangly thermal paper? How does that work with colour then?

Aside: Can you still get dye sublimation printers? They always seemed potentially very cool - provided you were prepared to wait.
