New Zealand TV news service is piece of shit indeed!!!

They just keep repeating some of the facts everyone already knows! like China has poor democracy, South Africa has huge gaps between poor and rich, the paramedic staff has to deal with a lot injury people and see lots of unpleasant scene. WTF!

Don't they understand the word "News" or They are just bunch of idiots? Damn! Lets just hope NZ is not a "Nation control by the media" like the US, since we obvious don't want idiots control our mind!:girlfight:

Yeah, I know, its Christmas time, lets cheer up! :calm:But before I do that...Just excuse me to say this: Fuck the stupid news service. I'm so sick of it.

Yeah, I not in good mood.

You forgot the typical NZ news structure.
MAJOR stories
i.e. "OMG, a kiwi is coaching the aussie rugby team"
"the all-blacks won ..."
"the silver ferns won in that minority sport nobody watches".
"eden park etc etc"

Usually followed by MINOR stories such as
"a hurricane hits somewhere"
"bird flu pandemic "
"war/coup"

I'm pretty sure if Aliens landed on Earth we'd still hear an interview from the all-blacks coach first.

How about Bernadine Oliver-Kirby to Sarah Ulmer at the last Olympics - immediately after winning the gold medal in her cycling event and setting a new world record in the process.

"Sarah, you must be exhausted"!

Words failed me...

Yes, but wasn't one of the paramedics shown extremely good looking?

No, I'm not talking about Blue Thunder.

Words failed me...

I personally like the incisive manner that Bernadine manages to get answers to the hard questions...

And Mark Sainsbury said to Robbie Deans last night...
''Robbie? if you had of got the All Blacks job, you wouldn't have gone to Australia?''..

Our TV news is effectively 1.5 hours long once you throw in the "current affairs" shows.

BBC 1 (equiv of TV1) shows 1/2 hour of news followed by another 1/2 hour of regional news (eg London).

Fark we must have much more news going on than they do in the UK! :eek5:

Or maybe our news could be fit into 20minutes....

And it's that time of year when the media start playing the annual road toll game. Anybody with any basic understanding of statistics would know that over the 10-day Christmas/New Year holiday period, the road toll should be about 15. Anything more or less is an aberration that may or may not be due to any one factor or combination of factors.

And there is never a good or convenient time to die, and croaking at Christmas is no worse that at any other time of year.

Get over it.

Like it or not, the two main news channels are geared up to report news that a high percentage of Kiwis will be able to digest comfortably.
I have no objection to this, as there are other avenues of reporting available for those that wan't a more comprehensive service.
Personally, I've found the English version of Al Jazeera news to be the most informative and unbiased around. The BBC is full of self centered UK angles, and I havn't got much time for the US reporting either.
I would like a little more international news on TV1, TV3, but also more regional info. After all, this is NZ, not the European Union. That news is readily available online. MHO.;)

You forgot about the cute human interest stories that you get each night. Who could forget Nicki Watson's dog that went missing at the beach. She drove the whole community mad with her persistant calling. Don't get me wrong - I love animals and they have their place. Some of them go nicely beside the vegetables on the plate... Others shouldn't be allowed to own them, and again others shouldn't be making news items out of them...

Yup...
Gotta love tvnz. Just a shame that TV3 is so enthusiastic about thugby...

At least Al Jazeera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Jazeera)TV, and DW-TV (shown on Triangle) has zero kiwi content (don't tell the Maori Broadcasting corporation...) and you can find out a bit more about what is happening around the globe!

Again, it's a sports program... just like all the rest!

Well, if they cut out the fucking commercial breaks in the News broadcasts then I reckon it would probably be only 20 minutes (not counting sports of course, that's good for at least 40 mins! Anything less would actually be a crime.)

Indeed - I've always wondered why the time of death should matter that much... I guess it makes it easier to relate and get emotional about it if you envision the relatives having an empty seat at the christmas table. (Personally I believe you won't be worrying too much about the holidays if you've just had a close relative/friend pass away)

I pity NZers having no "commercial free" State owned broadcaster. The magic that screens on the ABC in Oz puts TVNZ to shame. Of course there are historical reasons for the way NZ TV is structured I'm sure.

30 minutes is all that one really needs to cover news, sport and weather. The ABC does this and it makes it worth watching. None of the Packer bias that seems to dominate some of the other news services in Australia. But then there's always bias in any reporting of facts I suppose.

The ABC also has gems like the Chaser's War on Everything, Enough Rope (Andrew Denton) and Mr Squiggle.

Like lunch, there's no such thing as a "free" broadcaster. And my heart sinks when I think of the politically correct crap, lame English dramas and netball that gets served up by our state broadcaster and how this would be even worse once any sort of commercial imperative was removed.
