View Full Version : JAFA monthly meet 2/12/04

Drunken Monkey
5th November 2004, 11:26
We had some discussions about moving from the Ponsnobby pool hall last night, as the site is a bit akward. As you may recall the pool hall was pushed as it was:
1) central
2) somewhere you could do something without having to drink (unlike a pub)

The current push is for Mission Bay, the meeting at the carpark across from BK's, then burgering up before terrorizing *ahem* I mean touring around, perhpas a noisey pack ride through the city or to Maraetai to finish.
We could make it a 6:30pm dinner stop for an hour and still have enough light to ride out to Maraetai to finish.

Please post thoughts, dsicussions, ideas and the obligatory non-productive smart-ass comments below...

I think that sounds delightful, and if it could be done sometime when I'm not working that would be even better. Unfortunately on 2/12 I won't be finishing work until 9pm (if I'm lucky).

sounds good.. if I'm not on night shift I'll be there... mmmm coffee at Scorpio's(next to BK)

If you're on brown watch you will be on nights!

I'd be up for that. Maraetai is a cool place to ride to.

Yeah, so anyway the idea is to raise the profile of our monthly meets a little bit.
Will be doing this not at the expence of KB ie: no advertising that we're from KB untill we can prove we can behave ourselves in a city enviroment, which lets face it can be quite hard with all the boy racers (& general wankers, including myself) around!
The idea is we all turn up on our sickles, therefore we won't be meeting at a pub etc, as we don't want anyone drinking AT ALL.
But we want to do the Queen st thing and possibly some other hot spots for a change as we do tend to loitre (sp?) around the middle of no-where normally.
Of course this will mean the cleaning of bikes, riding gear etc.
Let us know what you think

Tell ya what might be a good idea.
The Claddagh bar in Newmarket.
They have a garden bar with tons of space and there is tons of parking for bikes n stuff.
Although its a bar they have a bloody good menu and the normal burger/fries as well
The parking would be in front of the garden bar -so down a one way alley with only one way to get the bikes out--and any bloke that can PUSH a bike up that slope -I aint gonna argue with him if he tries to steal mine.
The other thing I Know the owner and he's pretty biker freindly.

I'm with 6Chris6 on this one Frosty - it's a ride, so I'm not imbibing at all, and don't want to encourange anyone else to (not before hand anyway). A pub serves little other purpose, and yeah the food is pretty good there (but still better at Galbraiths or the H&T), but quite a lot of us -strictly- don't mix riding with drinking, and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit in a pub that serves Kilkenny on tap drinking OJ's...
If you want to finish up there when the sun sets and we're back from Maraetai, then go for it.

Devil
9th November 2004, 13:52
Well, from a North Shoreans view, Maraetai looks like the deepest darkest part of east butt-fuck no-where. Cruise through town would be ok ;)

Hey DM as you know i work thursday nights :angry2: for now anyway, if you guys are looking at a dinner stop! There's pleanty of room in the carpark out back of my work, enough room for a lotta bikes and space to spare for burnouts :innocent: I'd put a generous discount up for all KBer's on some pizza each week if you be keen.

Free pizza to the best burnout to :headbang: But if the :Police: turn up i don't know you

Pack ride the back streets from Mission Bay, past Eastridge, through Meadowbank/St Johns, to Ellerslie for Pizza and burnouts...

It's a lovely ride out to Maraetai, get off the southern motorway at East Tamaki, go east a few kays, turn right and it's nice green twisties all the rest of the way. A perfect summer afternoon ride to the beach. Not many slow blind corners, just nice traffic-free back roads.

I rode out there to drop something off at the marina a while back; the FXR drove me nuts. It's just no fun riding along in fourth and fifth gear on full throttle, wanting to go faster but not really having the ponies. It'd be lovely to do on a Proper Bike.

Righto,
The terrorising part, and the burger part all sound good to me.
Lets do that then, and ignore all these contrary suggestions.
Maybe we can take on board all these other ideas and do something different each month?

Don't want to crash a testosterone thing, but would like to meet you all!
There *might* be some testosterone in the breeze, but seeing as how it'll be in town I doubt it will turn into a "I can fall off faster than you" effort like some rides I've been on.

I'll be on a 250 so there will be at least two of us on underpowered bikes. If we're lucky TS might turn up on his 150, and jayzus that things slow..

Hmmmm i might come along. And maybe get up to some shinanigans.

The mariatia (screw the spelling) is a great ride (well along the coast) and after the themes coast ride that one is a piece of piss. Nice ride back into clevedon and then either hill to go over on the way back to howick/motorway.

Mr Skid
18th November 2004, 23:44
Why can't you wankers wirte ins a straight line eh? Gotta be all spelling over the place.. or maybe it's me.. The MT bottle of vodka here would argue the case for thje latter.

Me and my Rossi knock off stunts will be there rain or shine. Or hail. Or snow, not that we get that much in Orkland. But you get the point. hopeflully/

I think so. I work in town, I havent yet decided whether ill just bring the bike in to work and stay in town, or go home and pick up the bike. I might do the latter as I cant be bothered hanging around in town.

This is of course all based on being able to get my bike running properly before then :( Started having problems a few days ago. Dunno if its electrical, or fuel or air or what...

Pimp our rides? Like on MTV?

Will this involve someone like Scribe comming around to an unsuspecting KB members house, and embarassing them over their missing left fairing?

Let me guess what happens next..

The bike is carted away in a rusty old van (courtesy of MR) to KK's gargre and is magically transformed into a vacuum cleaner (designed to pick up bits of fluff :msn-wink: ) resplendent in fluro metalic chamelion yellow two tone paint, with a fake bonnet scoop, neon under the wheel arches, led highlights on the oil filter, and a PS2 under the pillion seat?

Well from my perspective it wholly depends on how many people turn up and what kind of experience we have. We might want to split it up if there's a lot of peeps. Plus, I'm not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not going to wait long and play map reader for those that don't know the way - we're too stretched for time.

Great, I'll just make sure the L-plate 'accidentally' falls off on my way to meeting you guys next to holeshot. If the weather is really really shitty I'll pass though, hope its good. I'll text you tomorrow afternoon to tell you.

Yes go pillion with aff - but make sure you glue or staple your butt to his seat - so that you don't slip off when he does his wheelies at every stop light.

hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe:killingme :killingme :killingme :killingme

Right people. What are your opinions on the weather at the moment. its looking quite drizzly from the CBD. hmmph. Its not too wet (better drizzle than doomy rain).

Out east it's cloudy as but still holding up .... we'll see at about 4:30 what she is doing.

As to taking Ck on the back. Already did that once and he moved around and made the bike feel really really sluggish. Hell maybe is is getting a bit heavy   :shit: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, or maybe i just need a 600 :headbang:

Well that was a bit of a laff, even thou the burgers were a bit ordinary.

Some crappy mobile phone pics below. Note 'deliberate' alteration of image(58) to disgusie the identity of the 'sustained loss of traction' culprit.

Methinks if we were going to do _that_ kind hooliganism, we should find somewhere more...industrial. There's the back of a Pizza place in 'Industrial' Ellerslie ;)

Apologies to those who were keen for a longer ride, as some of us 'forgot' our clear visors and there was all that milling around BK's waiting for stragglers.

I'm still open for ideas for next time...

Hey everyone....

Well that was a shitload of fun, but not something i would want to do regularly.... and more industrial type areas....

First of all.. Sorry to those that got left behind...... this was by no means a normal KB ride, so please dont be put off by this one.... It was mainly a fuck around be stupid time where the front guys didnt even know where they were going....

Quite a few car alarms were set off by Speedmedic and Aff-man.... I pulled alot of stoppies, and finally some good ones with a few rolling ones chucked in (the RG is awesome) A few power wheelies were done (not by me), and i sparked up the night...

about 15 people turned up in total....

Hooligans of the night: Frosty (he won the title)

Those newbies that came along, please come along to a real KB ride, that i think was quite off putting for you guys and a real KB ride is FAR better than that... It has less crazy shit and someone stopping at the intersections etc....

Holy shit that was fun  and it was my first group ride. Ah, the reckless disregard of ones own saftey and the saftey of others  Nice to meet some of you guys in person, can't remember everyone though but all the same.

Yaa A BIG THANK YOU TO FROSTY for escorting me home as it was close to 10pm and I'm a L-Plater. Frosty - you are the man:first:

By the way - there's now something smoother than a baby's bottom - thats the bottom of Frosty's center stand :devil2:

Those newbies that came along, please come along to a real KB ride, that i think was quite off putting for you guys and a real KB ride is FAR better than that... It has less crazy shit and someone stopping at the intersections etc....Whaaa ??????:shit:

You mean you guys usually behave like normal (BORING) people??

OK- Next time I'll come in my 1300cc 1989 Toyota Corolla. It goes real fast, especially downhill...honestly :shifty:

Naa mate - I enjoyed each and every second of it.

My best moment was when we stopped at the first traffic light on Queen St.

Four or was it FIVE!!! bikes lined up in a SINGLE LANE ready for a little mini drag. And everyone giving their throttle a little twist to keep the revs up. It sounded MARVELOUS:ride: AND I HAD MY VISOR DOWN!!!

No wonder we got everyone's attention. :devil2:

Can't wait till next time.......hope to see more tarmac though......

You guys are gonna have to work hard to beat this.....

PRIMO FIRST TIME FOR ME.

THANKS EVERYONE:Punk:

LOL, no i mean less hooliganism.... double (or even triple the speeds i was doing  ) and you can see that a normal KB ride can still be intersting.... Stoppies and wheelies are still done on a KB ride.......

justsomeguy
2nd December 2004, 21:59

Ok, I better get a tow rope and attach it to your bike then....... cos I can't figure out any other way of keeping up

I'd agree with TS, the pace was a little bit too quick for the occasion, though personally that came from not knowing where we were going to wind up.

I think if we are going to do another ride like this again, it would be good to get on the road a little bit earlier. I was finding it a little bit difficult trying to change lanes, and judge the speed of bike behind me in the twilight.

Otherwise top marks to the 'clowns' of the evening:

Well i had a blast. I must apologise for my abismal wheelie attemps. But you'll be pleased to know that a boy racer pissed me off enough on the way home so that i dumped the clutch and did a real minter right passed him.

THIS WAS NOT A NORMAL KB RIDE. For all the newbies. It was the first one of this variety i have been on, and i found it a bit of a laugh, especially following speedmedic (oooooooooooo arrrrrrrrrrrr dem vtwins sound lurrrrrrrrrvely) and TS going around mission bay. Sorry for leaving the others behind :sweatdrop .

I'm up for more shinnaigans but i think a more "industrial" area would be required.

Nice to meet some of you for the first time :apint:

I had this huge grin on my face when I got home - the Mrs was all "What's with you?" HEH....

Note: I'm not likely to ever do any of that stuff, but I'll hold a camera!...

Personal fave moments of the night:
1 - Frosty sparks
2 - the poor sod on the Gobble scooter (Ok so he did out accelerate me....) - The look on his face when he realised how many bikes there were coming past him - HAHAHAHAHA!
