It seems I have been given permission to put a new 250f MX'er in the garage next to the mighty KDX. I must have been a good boy..... :innocent: Is there anyone out there who has ridden all or most of them and can do some sort of comparison (that doesn't have to keep advertisers happy) I'm guessing all the current model 250 4strokes are very good and it will come down to personal preferences..... I am an old slow guy who simply wants to ride VERY nice bikes, because I can.... :devil2: I love the KDX for trail rides and don't want to change it for Kimmy's and Ardmore which it ain't too grand for. Over the next few months I'll get a few test rides with aim of acquiring one just before the new model comes out (something to look forward to) I have no brand allegiance, but do favour a certain dealer, which will probably influence the decision....

So, why did you choose yours , over the other brands??

I'ld buy the KTM SX250f....the suzi and kawa have awesome engines...but not as good as the KTM...the kawa has a wicked chassis...on par with the KTM in my opinion...the yamaha...has great suspenion..and handles the best of the Jap bikes in my opinion...and the KTM...is close to the yam there...but not quite.

I'ld buy the KTM...or Suz or Kawa and get the suspension re-valved/sprung!!

to me the sxf250 feels too small, and i don't really like the ktm feel. for the extra money you could redo the suspension on a kxf250 and you would have a real winner. the yamaha is a real nice bike. and if i was buying another anytime soon i would have one of those.

the RMZ is nice, but i want to change away from suzuki.

my choice/recommendation would be a close battle between the kxf250 and the yzf250. upgrade the pipes on both with the suspension tuned for your weight and it would be amazing.

my 2 cents.

Eh and here I was thinking that you are a die hard 2 stroke fan all the way....

To be honnest they are all pretty good. I like that honda though because they have quite a nice set up with seperate oil for the gearbox and engine. I test rode a KXF and a CRF and liked the honda better. Had a nicer "feel" to it. The Kawa had some nice factory parts though with the hubs etc. The KTM all have quite sharp steering angles and people tend to put steering dampers on them (from what I've been told and seen).

Having said all that everyone that has jumped of the new YZ's are raving about them.

Anyway talk to some of teh dealers on here. I think that Scott would look after you if you want a KX or a RM.

cheese, yeah, I'm a 2stroke fan, was thinking of getting an 08 Kx125, then the spend limit was raised to a level approaching a KXF (God I love my wife....). It's going to be an interesting time trying them all out, the 125 is still a contender.....

Doesn't it get down to the discussion that was had a while ago on the rear suspension - do you want one with rising rate linkage or do you prefer the idea of the KTM without linkage? Wasn't the vote at the time against the KTM and a reason why Townley defected to green.

Why not a 250 2 stroke? Have a crack on my one next time I see you. I find the 250 alot more rider friendly than a 125.

cheese, thanks mate, that would be great... I used to have a couple of KX250s '89 and '90, then made the change to a 125 in '91 and went a LOT faster....Until the big "left shoulder/right knee" crash of '92.... :crybaby: In all probability the only bike I NEED is the KDX, but really do fancy having an up to date MX'er to play on... The internet is good place for thinking out loud, eh?

things have come a long way since 1991 tho... my suggestion is ride anything you can get your hands on, especially if your not in a huge rush. if you like the ease of maintenance of the 2 stroke, stick with it, if you want to be a noisy bastard like everyone else, buy a 4 stroke :Pokey:

your best bet is buy what you like the feel of after riding them all

Yamaha 08 YZ250F or Honda 08 CRF250R best 250F's on the market. The SXF has the most powerful engine.

i brought my 08 RMZ because it was the cheapest of all the 250mxer's
and also as i wouldn't be able to max out any of the bikes.
in all the shoot out/ compering bike mags.
all of the bikes have their good points and bad points, but in the end most of them say that the crf250 was the best all round package.
Just to float my bikes boat.
The rmz has the secound highest Hourse power (KTM first) by 1 hp
and the rmz has the most toque and also comes in the earlyest in the rpm range.
They reckon the gear is a little to close as standed on the rmz, and can be easly be geared a tooth higher.
mines always free to have a blast on if you want to try one.
be riding at the next mr motorcycles ride.
