Next weekend I shall be the proud owner of a 1987 Honda GL145 when I travel to Hamilton to pick it up :D The seller did a pretty good job of describing it, so i'll just quote him:

"Honda 145 in good condition with Warrant and Registration.

The bike shows 45000km on the clock but 1000km ago I replaced the engine after at died. Recently I have also put on a new chain, replaced the seal in the front suspension and put in a new coil. The kick start recently broke off and I have put an aftermarket one on. The only problem with this part is that it doesn't fit exactly as it should and was catching on the exhaust. I have fixed this problem but the exhaust now shows signs of scraping.

The bike sometimes has a little trouble starting in the cold but once running it is a great bike. I learnt on it and Im sure it will be great for another learner."

$650 is what it will be costing me :D :D :D
I cant wait to pick it up.... it may not be much, but being a learner i'm sure it will be perfect until I gain a couple more licences and some cash :D

Nice one dude. --Theyre a great lil learner bike.
Just one word of caution.
CHANGE THE OIL , CHANGE THE OIL , CHANGE THE OIL.
ohh and very important --CHANGE THE OIL.
very small sump means the oil works extra hard so it needs changing often.

Yeah I plan on doing it once a month or two. Speaking of oil.... what kind should I put into it? Are there specific types for motorbikes?

eek! I see this becomming another oil thread.

Do a search and you'll find lots of opinions about the best oil to use, which will thoroughly confuse you.

But basically don't use a car oil, as they have friction modifiers included which will make your clutch slip.

Unless you want a slippy clutch, then go right ahead.

But the idea is you use a dedicated motorbike oil, apart from that, synthetic v. semi-symthetic v. mineral motorcycle oil is up to you.

Make your clutch slip..... hmmmm I suppose maybe for those weirdos among us with wet clutches.... :Pokey:

I put 10W-40 in the Honda CB125, I guess you would be ok using the same....

They usually have the oil type engraved on the plastic oil cap anyway don't they?

Some of us weirdos prefer quiet clutches. :bleh:

Yay! I got it on Sunday :D

After riding it for a couple of days i can tell you all its a beaut of a bike. Goes pretty hard too.... didnt expect a little 145 to have as much power as it does... so i'm rapt with it :D

I just need an owners manual or something for it so that i can figure out the choke settings properly and find out what oil to use and whether it has a filter or a screen or something....

It will certainly do me for the 18months before i get my full and then hopefully a new bike.

Have fun getting out there and riding it safely.... :ride:

To get your hands on a manuel, try going to your local library.... and photocopy off what info that you need.... as they dont lend you the bike manuels... If your local library doesnt have it, then get them to borrow it from another bigger library or they can get it from the Country library service which is a big library that sends out all sorts of books.

Or put an advert in the wanted section of the bikes in the Trade and Exchange for the manuel. Some one out there may have a copy that they no longer want..... or what about looking in second hand book shops... another place to find old bike manuels. :)
