Getting my first bike soon! :D

Next weekend I shall be the proud owner of a 1987 Honda GL145 when I travel to Hamilton to pick it up The seller did a pretty good job of describing it, so i'll just quote him:

"Honda 145 in good condition with Warrant and Registration.

The bike shows 45000km on the clock but 1000km ago I replaced the engine after at died. Recently I have also put on a new chain, replaced the seal in the front suspension and put in a new coil. The kick start recently broke off and I have put an aftermarket one on. The only problem with this part is that it doesn't fit exactly as it should and was catching on the exhaust. I have fixed this problem but the exhaust now shows signs of scraping.

The bike sometimes has a little trouble starting in the cold but once running it is a great bike. I learnt on it and Im sure it will be great for another learner."

$650 is what it will be costing me
I cant wait to pick it up.... it may not be much, but being a learner i'm sure it will be perfect until I gain a couple more licences and some cash

    Noice one man.
Lump lingered last in line for brains,
And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane...

Very nice and good luck on it. I learnt on one of those a couple of years back.

To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Nice one dude. --Theyre a great lil learner bike.
    Just one word of caution.
CHANGE THE OIL , CHANGE THE OIL , CHANGE THE OIL.
ohh and very important --CHANGE THE OIL.
very small sump means the oil works extra hard so it needs changing often.

Yeah I plan on doing it once a month or two. Speaking of oil.... what kind should I put into it? Are there specific types for motorbikes?

eek! I see this becomming another oil thread.

Do a search and you'll find lots of opinions about the best oil to use, which will thoroughly confuse you.

But basically don't use a car oil, as they have friction modifiers included which will make your clutch slip.

Unless you want a slippy clutch, then go right ahead.

But the idea is you use a dedicated motorbike oil, apart from that, synthetic v. semi-symthetic v. mineral motorcycle oil is up to you.

Usually. I use car oil from Repco in my old plonkers. It's a bit old but you may find this interesting-http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/oilreport.html
