I am looking to emmigrate to NZ November 08. I would really like to work for the Corrections Service but would also be very happy working as a Psychologist in any profession.
I currently hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology (have a 2:1) and am studying for an MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology. I am focusing my attention on stalking and hope to be Both of my qualifications, when I have the MSc will be accredited by the British Pscyhological Society.
undertaking my research for my thesis at Holloway Young Women's Prison. I intended to investaigate the COPES inventory (some of which I will reword to make it more approapriate for the intended target group who have varying levels of literacy) whilst factoring attachment style and looking at whether coping acts as a mediator.
If anyone can advise me or provide any assistance with searching for a psychologist position that would help me to gain entry and assistance towards gaining PR I would be extremely grateful. I can provide academic transcripts ot give an outline of what has been studied at undergraduate level.

Phone The Ministry of Corrections (or Justice) here in NZ and see what Qualifications they need you to have in the area you are looking at working in and go from there. My suggestion is to take a look at the Treaty of Waitangi papers offered at some of the Universities in NZ also, as I'm pretty sure any job relating to NZ people will need you to have some knowledge and/or paper in it (prepare yourself for some really boring and tedious crap there!) Good luck.

There are a few agencies that provide specialist services in your area of work.
What region will you be living in? There are advantages when immigrating to looking outside the Auckland region.
There is currently a skill shortage for people with in "medical" fields. Pop me a pm if you need help... and I can do some quick refresh research to help if it’s needed.

I shacked up with a clinical psychologist for a couple of years. Can't believe they let her near subjects as she was as mad as a rocket.
anyway...on topic.
Unless things have changed in the last couple of years you'll probably be looking to obtain a permanent residence visa via the "skilled migrant" category. To keep the NZIS happy you'll have to get your qualifications checked via the NZQA and most likely the kiwi equivalent of the BPS. Your lack of experience might be a problem though.
It's much easier to find work if you're over here. I just got a working holiday visa (they pretty much hand them out if you're under 30 and I think they now last two years) and then once I had a job and a better feel for the country applied for the permanent visa.
Are you sure you want to come here?

Our daughter is just writing up her Master's thesis in Psych, already has an Hons graduate Psych degree. She worked for the Justice youth facility at Rolleston near Christchurch, but has literally just moved to Wellington to work for Corrections. She says that Corrections has a very good internship programme for psychologists, both at a general and clinical level. If you ever want to contact her for networking purposes, PM me.
Cheers,
Geoff

What Uni are you at and will you be done with your thesis before you come here? Would be an advantage if you complete your MSC and then migrate.
Try: www.seek.co.nz (http://www.seek.co.nz)
Most jobs are advertised there. You should not have a problem obtaining your permanant residency with those quals.
Some people come here from 3rd world countries where you can buy degrees for 5 pounds from the gutter.

There is sometimes difficulty transferring overseas qualifications to register here as a Clin Psych. Things have recently been tightened up with the Health Practitioner Competence Assurance Act. To register here as a clinical psych we have to have the appropriate post grad qual. Either a masters with honours, or a Phd; as well as a post grad diploma in Clin Psych. This involves at least one year working as an intern, with a number of exams along the way.
My best guess is that if you leave the UK qualified to practice there, you will have equivalency and be able to register. If you don't have the quals to register in the UK, you will probably need to look at doing a Clinical Diploma here. Getting accepted into the Clinical Programs can be a major challenge with heaps of very qualified applicants for not many places, but occasionally they even let clowns like me through.
This link tells you about registration (http://www.psychologistsboard.org.nz/). It should be a good place to start. Feel free to PM if there might be anything else I can help with.

Where’d that come from! Of course there are those who qualify in India and other countries who are up to it – but really the UK and NZ have a very good qualifications system that provides us with some sense of assurance.
Big jump from the good point “India has some rather good universities” to then calling her a “condescending bigot”!
You obviously have some deep issues you need to explore – you should see a psychologist

There's a lot of good help and guidance available at http://www.move2nz.com/
Mike and Tammy are ex-Poms and run the site from CHCH. They have a lot of experience and can certainly point you in the right direction. You can search the forums for people in similar situations, plus post for help (like you have here). The process from EOI to ITA can be quite daunting so it is good to be prepared and make sure you score enough points to be invited to apply.
I do know a couple in your industry, their names escape me for now, but they are on Move2NZ. One is a trauma councillor and the other a probation officer. They say there is a real shortage of people in their industry.
Good luck to you.
