yeah saw this, (one end of) Roberts Line is about 200m from my house so a bit concerned as to who it might be.....
edit: I'm guessing it probably happened up on the open road section north of Kelvin Grove Rd as there was no evidence of any accident in the suburban section as I came home yesterday

Haven't heard anything through our bike club, but sad to hear another rider has lost his life. It may well have been someone we know or have ridden with in the past. Condolences to his family and friends.

There is a photo of the accident scene on the Manawatu Standard's site today - http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatustandard/4357172a6003.html. Looked like an old Triumph. Not sure what happened though, but the bike is relatively undamaged. The impact on the 4WD appears to be head-on but the bike looks like it was hit by the front wheel on an angle rather than head-on. Possibly one vehicle was turning out of the intersection in the path of the other.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or are the forks on that bike bent *outwards* - chopper style. Rather than bent back toward the motor as one would expect.

I can see this also. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that 4WDs are higher off the ground?

Damn, they must have hit each other at a good clip looking at the front of that 4WD...
Take care out there - the season isn't over yet it seems :(

It looks as if the wheel has been twisted towards the right while the handlebars have been held straight by the impact - thus bending and twisting the forks in that manner...

The year isn't off to a great start at all.

I'd guess that the front wheel was pinned down by the bumper of the 4wd while the rest of the bike tried to go over the bonnet.

Saw this in the standard tonight
Happened at the intersection of Roberts Line and Kelvin Grove road at the top of the hill . Saw a few accidents there years ago when Roberts Line used to run straight through down towards Napier road. Monie and I used to live just down the road
I dont recognise the bike, bloody sad
Condolences to family and friends

Mrs Cowboyz missed the accident by minutes. She comes home that way and got 3/4 down roberts line and got turned round by the police and told to find another way through. I was about 15 mins behind that and the entire road was closed with an accident sign. Very very close to home this one.
Careful out there and will be interesting to hear some details about this one cause the impact looks very severe for a 70km area with a stop sign.
