wouldn't think charging people a $100 dollars viewing fee will do him many faviours
he must think its a bank making intrest or something, maybe he needs to keep it another 25 years,

That's ok, I dont suffer sellers who are wankers.

Mad man....couldn't help emailing him to ask if he was for real about that.
Maybe he doesn't really want to sell it...maybe his handbrake has demanded he get out of bikes? Seems a pretty half assed way of enticing the buyers in...

Well, I don't think either selling for a friend or the viewing fee is in line with TM policy - obviously TM would like a cut of that $100 if it was allowed.
I sympathise if the guy has let 20 people take test rides and just got spoddy ejits, but this is a stupid idea.
Now a test ride deposit - that puts off the wasters and its 'free' unless you drop it.
By the way, you all owe me $5 for having read this. My viewing fee dont' cha know?

I clicked on the link expecting it to be a pristine, concourse standard relic, that the whole motorcycling community would trip over themselves to get to.
Alas, its a poxy old RD. Not worth a pinch of shit.
The owner must be a very busy man, "times money sonny, times money"

He's probably wondering why he's getting lots of views and nobody coming to look at it. This is the second place I have seen this discussed.

You cannot ask questions on the auction page. That was going to be fun.:shifty:

Nothing new. It's quite common for auction houses to only allow viewing of, or entry to, an auction if a catalogue has been purchased beforehand.

Having sold my share of bikes on TM I can see the merits of the idea. Have had some real timewasters turn up. You get all sorted, they turn up late and then spend ages only to insult you. Sold a small one just last week and the third ones to come for a look had a ride. While the young boy was testriding the old guy with him (not his dad, never sussed out who he was) asked me the price (that was clearly stated in the auction) and said: Oh nooo, we wont pay that!!!. So I told him to fuck off. When the boy came back all smiling and happy the old guy said: "Come, lets go". There was confusion and a big dissappointment on the young fellas face. (Sold it next day to others for asking price)
But re the idea to charge for viewing: You will sell the bike to the first ones coming for a look. These are the ones who knows they will get the $100 back.
If it was a Black Shadow, a Indian or a classic that there is only one or two left of, then yes. But as someone said, a piece of .... that is not even registered or have WOF... And $4,5K...
What is a hooker for one hour worth these days??? $100?? Would you get same satisfaction from looking at this thing???

Hahahahaha... even if i was interested ,that type of ignorant add and fee would put me off totally and by his rationale if you dont pay a 100 dollar viewing fee then you are a fool. What a twat.:eek5:

Well, I was not sure if there is a price change over the tourist season. And also if the strong NZ $ had an impact today. Last time I paid $150...

I had some timewasters when I sold the last bike, but the best one was when I sold a honda prelude left by my brother-in-law through trademe.
A middle-aged Dutch couple turn up, and spend 2 hours examining it - drive it. Guy examines the engine - good example of the sporty Jap 2.2l job.
After all this time I think I'm about to close the deal - and so do they it seems - when the guy says "what fuel economy do you get"
"About 30mpg" I say
He looks devastated. "Oh, we only want a car to save money on petrol over what he have already"
Points to the 1l Micra he arrived in. Sale off.
So my advice to you - if you want to save fuel over mouse-engined junk don't look at sport cars. I should have charged those :shit: ers $100.
And if you read this, you now owe me $200. When shall I expect it?

What a d1ck, I get a lot of this as well eh, mostly people expecting a brand new car even though it was advertised as a 93' for $3k or similar, have developed a blunt attitude towards such tyre kickers as of late.
From the urban dictionary;
Tyre kicker
(n.) A person who appears interested in buying your car, but on the day displays any of the following traits.
• Does not show up
• Does not bring money
• Kicks the tyres and complains about even the most minor faults
• Seems to know barely anything about the car
• Offers stupid money (a large amount either side of what you expected)
• Keeps asking if he can part exchange his rusty old Ford for your car, not wondering why anyone wouldn't want it
• Assumes the car is in fine working condition just by kicking the tyres
• Tries to drive a restoration project dozens of miles home with him.
• Asks questions repeatedly, specifically ones mentioned in adevertising the car
• Gets the manufacturers' name wrong
• Asks if you are willing to transport the car without charge.
• Makes a bid for a car placed on ebay or similar without any positive feedback
• Dresses up as, or asserts that they are a priest or mulla in an attempt to pay less for the car
• Is a young driver who just passed his test looking to buy a cheap old car, rice it up, and show off to thier friends. Quite likely to wreck it in a month.

Haha, bet TM will see this and think it's a good idea.
Imagine 20 lookers at $100 a piece... Fark, looks like I should try 'sell' my VFR :p

I knew a girl that went to look at a car that was $2500 ONO. So she offered $3000!
Unfortuantely I'm not joking. Why cannot I find people like that when I'm selling stuff.

Asking a viewing fee is ridiculous, there are some simple steps to preselect who views it. Easy to make a short list of key questions.
As far as test rides go the answer in most instances should be no until every other issue has been covered and you see the colour of their money. With a bike like this one a potential buyer will not be buying it for how well it handles, its power etc. The last thing you want is to let a buyer take your bike for a ride to see if it has enough power, do I want a bike etc question.

Yep a tosser.
The alarm bell in my head has gone off. For 4.5k ish you should expect a 1970s bike to have a WOF at least. More costs for the new owner.
This is from my faded memory but what really has me suspicious is the paint job. Did they even come in plain white? I thought they all had pin striping that followed the contour of the tank and on the tail piece? It reminded me of the XS750/850s of the time.

I forgot to add that according to my 2T addicted mate the ones to go for are the C models and earlier. Wire wheels and drum rear brake. You will get top dollar for one of those. Even the later 400E models are worth more than the Fs. The problem I have been told is that the high bars and custom styling on the F didn't go down too well with the fans who wanted their bikes to look like the racing TZs.
I wonder if the Tardme guy knows all this?

That much for a 7 is a rip off... honestly. You can get a FI bike, way lighter, more performance, for the same dollars, and probably newer. I should know, I owned a modified 7, and sold for 5.5k (it had 73k on the clock tho). That said, I would avoid the orange one, unless you knew what you were doing. He started that out around 7k I think, way before I sold mine about a year ago.
