I finally did it!!

I have always loved sport bikes and would seriously consider racing professionally one day so I signed myself up for Racing School here in Ontario. I would like to buy a Ducati Monster 695 but I also and considering a Kawasaki Ninja 650R (cheaper obviously) I have only been riding a cruiser and have never ridden a sport bike. Which bike would you all suggest would be better. I am only 5'4" (162 cm) and so I know some of the sport bikes don't accomdate those of us that are vertically challenged. I am however, very excited about going to school to learn how to do twisties the correct way. Which bike would you suggest as the best choice?

Thanks a bunch in advance.

the duc - better for us vertically challenged too. But you can always lower a bike that puts the big grin on your face.

MV Agusta F4 Senna special edition lol......just save up for a little longer:bleh:. I'd think the kawasaki *cos i love kawasaki* and the fact that it's cheaper allows you to race modify it, if your taking up the sport.*use the dosh left over for race parts*

Why not go down to the track and see what people are riding?

Go for the kawaka. I've just purchased one, done 600 k on it. The riding position is great, with the handle bars up high.
It's starting to free up, the exhaust note is way different, does about 70mpg or 4.2l/100km already, runs smooth and was very cheap. Build quality if fine.:niceone:

How much riding months wise do you get in Canada?
Surely you don't ride in the snow?

I've just switched from a Monster 400 to the 650R and am really loving the kawasaki. The ducati ultimately had a bit more style/soul/cool factor, but was cantankerous (eg unreliable), and didn't start 1st time every time etc. it had a really low seat height, as opposed to a low height for the 650r.

the 650r steers better than the monster, and with the fairings its an easier ride above 60mph/100kmph. the 695 puts out a little more power than the 650 I think, with the new 696 giving about 80hp?

Price has got to be the real deciding factor. most people here probably wouldn't shell out $17000 for a new monster, but the 650r is only $10500. Imagine one with seven grands worth of mods.....

I am looking to upgrade in a couple of months and thought I would take advantage of the thread, and ask what the pro's and con's are of the ER6F/N and the SV650/s are? I will be using the bike for commuting to school/work and then open road riding on the weekend.
