Hey dude, have a read of this (http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=239)
You'll probably need dvd region killer or something if that dvd drive is the same one that was taken out of your old computer.

Here's the farzeno firmware page: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php.

If they haven't got the firmware you need, it isn't available.

It tends to not make too much difference which DVD writer you use, its more the software used and how good it is getting around copyrights... :moon:

*sigh*

I'll explain.

There are two different types of firmware in DVD drives.

RPC-1 and RPC-2

RPC-2 is the domestic version which allows for 5 region changes at home before you have to take it to the dealer for tweaking.

RPC-1 is special, region-free firmware version which allows for unlimited switching. Go to the site I mentioned and download RPC-1 firmware for a DVR-107

Of course, your best bet is to make a backup of your CD using DVDShrink and Nero6 and stripping the macrovision and region codes from the backup (set in the preferences). Put your original away and use the copy to play.

You can even use DVDShrink to make a backup which is region 4 if you use an older Sony or Panasonic which chokes on region-free dvd's.

I have a Gigabyte Combo DVD Player/DVD Burner with Sonic MyDVD Version 4.60 as my main Burning Programme. I know it's not legal, but is there a way around the copy protection on some DVD's (just curious).

Actually it's debateable that it's illegal. The fact is it is legal under fair use. At least until the fascists plug it up.

As for getting around the copy protection, it depends on the sort. LiteOn drives are good for ripping protected disks. CloneCD (dunno if they've encorporated DVD into it yet, haven't looked) is good software for ripping protected disks. Alcohol 120% is another to look into.

You first need to know what sort of protection it has in place, and then it's an easy google to find the work-around.
