You want one. But not the one that's sitting in motomail. I made it sticky.

Giz a go on the SD-R and I'll write you a comparative ride review.

As long as you have a full liciense and 1k just in case....go for it.

Yeah, buttock horse.

Actually, a back to back comparo of the SD-R and the Brutale R from two different riders would be quite fun. Ride together, swap and re-ride the same course, go away and write up impressions, post together without looking at each other's review first, etc.

Naturally, you'd want to eliminate ownership bias.

;)

I'm thinking jrandom vs Big Dave while Finn and DMNTD wait anxiously by the phone, reviewing their insurance policies...

Try the tuono first, but you probably have.

If you're stuck on a IL4 you should have tried Drews Hornet too. 90% of the brutale at 35% of the price. Plus its a great tourer too, with blah blah blah honda reliability.

I'll know 100% either way today...not too fussed if it doesn't happen as the SD-R is an awesome bike.

Finn

I'm a firm believer in that age old quote but not when it comes to motor vehicles. Comparing a Hornet to an MV is like Toyota Corolla vs Ferarri.

Nailing a Brutale R is something else.

Fatjim
7th February 2008, 10:16
Yeah, But I'm quicker in a Corolla than a Ferrari, purely because I cannot fit in a ferrari.

Finn
7th February 2008, 10:42
Yeah, But I'm quicker in a Corolla than a Ferrari, purely because I cannot fit in a ferrari.

Dude, the cabin in a 430 is big. I have to put the seat way forward to feel in control and contrary to popular belief, I'm not really a midget. Jeremy Clarkson fits in one easily so you would have to be 6'10" plus and weigh in at about 170 kg's not to fit.

Fatjim
7th February 2008, 10:44
Its the shoulders mate. They seats are too narrow so I end up leaning to the middle. McLaren made a car that i fit though.

jrandom
7th February 2008, 11:25
Dude, the cabin in a 430 is big.

Wot 'e said.

Well, I can't account for the 430, but the driver accommodation in the 599 is far nicer than one expects from an Italian supercar. Pity all I was allowed to do was sit in it, of course.

Sniff.

Although the GT machines probably aren't quite what Fatjim was thinking of. But only wankers drive 360s, Enzos and F-whatevers, so who cares.

;)

When I fix the compatibility issue between my video camera and Mac, I'll post a vid of me ringing the snot out of one in Southern France / Italy.

MV spare parts are expensive. Mind bogglingly expensive.

If you do get one, pray that it has been maintained. Then try not to crash it.

Fatjim
7th February 2008, 12:35
I hear the radiators are cheap because of the mass production techniques. Each MV uses on average about 3 a year.

jrandom

It's not the radiators at fault, there; it's the mounting.

And I'm not sure whether the Brutale has the same issue that the F4 does with the top-only radiator mount letting the radiator swing back during high speed / acceleration / wheelies and causing cracks and leaks, but the F4 is easily sorted with a little additional bracing around the bottom of the radiator.

I've had mine for almost 2 years now and apart from using a few tankers of petrol and a small country's rubber tree plantation, I haven't had anything break or need attention. However, when it does (in true Italian fashion) it will be nasty I'm sure.

MV spare parts are expensive. Mind bogglingly expensive.
Depends on who you know though eh? :shifty:
Oh and carbon fibre parts are cheaper for the Brutale than what they were for my "old" '07 ZX10R-SE!!!

Fatjim

Not so easy as to have fixed it in the factory, or the 7 f4's I heard that were waiting in Oz to get back on the road, or the Senna that got written off recently after a radiator split, just 3 weeks after it was replaced.

But I'm just being piccy.

They are sexy though (the f4's)

That Baby Brutale is priced about right. I bought the 910R
