Quick question for those cool kids here that have unlocked iPhones.

Have you used the 'turbo sim' solution or a proper software unlock?

Im looking at getting a one in the next week (possibly), and as such its probably going to be 1.1.3 out of the box - Im a tad worried that I may not be able to unlock it - leaving me with a very expensive ipod.

Waddya want one o them for? You got too much money or something?

I haven't paid for a cellphone since 1997. Since then it's been cast-offs from friends.

I got mine from a parallel importer. They do the unlock for you.

Buy one. They are excellent.

You haven't paid for anything since 1997. You're living off the rest of us.

In fact, my brother and one of my best friends are Freegans, so you are almost correct. But we get stuff from the garbage, stuff that would otherwise go to the dump, so we aren't depriving anyone of anything, apart from profits from retailers through lost sales.

Too much money - pffft I wish!

I dont pay for my phones - my work does (along with my calls and data plans). The reason that I wanted to try one is that I want to do some playing to see how I can utilize the safari browser on it with some peojects that we are running.

That - and the fact that's cool.

Cool kids? bwahahaha. You must mean the Apple fanboys who think having an iMac or iPhone gives them instant kudos. The only cool iAnything is here (http://www.allsexreviews.com/iviberabbit.htm)...so my ex tells me anyway.

If you want to be really stupid then waste your money one of the new "oh my gosh it's so thin" underspecced Apple laptops the fucktards on "this morning" were gushing over.

so much love in such a short post.

Actually despite you preconceptions - some of us actually have a business requirement that the iPhone delivers.

That's why I can expense it )so I'm not wasting MY money (but thanks for your concern)

I like apple stuff because I make a shitload of money operating it and can afford cool toys.

Just installed the email and other adds to my iPod shuffle.
Exceptionally neat gizzmos aren't they.

Indeed. We use Blackberrys for email (its push and the iPhone just aint!)

We needed the safari browser for some delivery of applications - and no other mobile browser could deliver what we need. - Thus the justification for the phones. Once they release Active Sync we will probally dump the Blackberrys.

I know that I do sound like a fanboi (as has been pointed out) - however (as a technologist) I am REALLY impressed with this hardware - it is leaps on from other stuff in the market.

Oh dear, I appear to need an upgrade.

Version: 1.0.2 (1C28) and no installer.

TerminalAddict
14th February 2008, 10:23
I can upgrade.

0 data loss (all care no responsibility :) )
although all apps will be wiped, and need to be reinstall (for Tank's info .. Finn, you probably have no 3rd party apps)

One thing ppl have complained about here.
No more custom ringtones/sms alerts/mail alerts/ etc

I also apply hack to allow proper number formatting
(09) 555-5555
(021) 555-555
(027) 455-5555

and apply hack to do number matching
(021) 555-555
+64 21 555-555
will match and the phone will realise they are the same contact.
This hack is not 100% tho' I have had 1 match failure in the last 2 days, where my contact was (021) 555-555 and I got a text from +64 21 555-555 and the name failed to match

Finn: have you got a turbo sim or software hacked phone?

Just goes to show - if you want to 'hack' at OSX based phones - ask on a biker forum.

I posted on a apple forum and got fuck all back.

Thanks for the help TA

I'm just bitter :Oi:...I wanted an T-Mobile Dash but a clear Vodyfone signal in my neck of the woods are just a dream (as is fast broadband come to think of it). Now if they released a satellite iPhone.....:baby:

My current PDA is just over a year old and looks like it's been in a warzone. I'm kinda worried what these "touch" devices would be like after a few months of constant use. I like buttons for commonly used things like making calls.
