I am in the process of converting my 05 R1 to a race bike.

I am hoping that as the bike is a bit older that a few of you may have parts left over from campaining one in the past.

Does anyone have any bits that would help that they want to sell or give away????

I already race a ZX6 so I have a lot of the generic parts (tyrewarmers, stands etc), so far the list of needs is

Suspension (possibly have a rear shock sorted)
Race fairing (will get from Billy if nothing cheeeep can be found, his price is pretty dam good new)
wheels (front and rear, preferably with disks etc)
rearsets
Exhaust system
Any other go fast bits ???

I recall jason mcewan peddling one round a few years back, although it was for blue wing so i doubt he has ony parts left. I am not sure where it went to after he had it.

I have the factory race kit manual in pdf form.

Go to your friendly Yamaha dealer and price the race ECU up, Part Number 5VY-8591A-71. You may find it's cheaper than a PC3, and it's soooooooo much better.

Yeah, like he said!

A coupla questions for you: How good is your R1? Are you dead seat on racing an R1?

The reason I ask is that you may be better off flogging your bike and purchasing something that somebody else has already poured a shitload of money into. I mean Stroud's extremely trick road and race ready ex-championship winning K3 Gixxer 1000 was for sale recently with lots of spares for a bargain $10500. Your stock R1 is worth way more than that yet wouldn't have anywhere near the performance or setup capability.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it but if you are serious about making your R1 even quicker then adding the price of suspension, exhaust, PCIII, fairings, rearsets, damper etc and you are looking at over 20grand when you factor in the value of your bike to start with. Even then it probably won't be in the same league as these bikes currently for sale:

But don't forget, this is coming from someone who keeps pouring money and effort into an obsolete old dinosaur that still has those weird carb thingamajigs....remember them, they were kinda trendy a while back...?

Enjoy whatever you do....and scour Ebay while the exchange rate is good!

I hear what your saying, however, half the fun for me is in the conversion/building of the bike.
I am also starting with a knowen quantity.

I have had a couple of things come up that should make it even more affordable to put this on the track.
