GN tyres, your opinion.

Hey you guys,

Decided the stock gn tyres need to go.

Stock they are 3.00-18 and 4.60-16

Ive told the boss to get me a quote for 90/90 - 18 front
and 130/90-16 rear.

What I want to know is if 130/90 is too wide for the rear and if I should go down to 120/90?

I remember the rear has lots and lots of clearance, I would think they will fit fine. I had a huge fat tyre on my GN, I think maybe more than 130 even.
To ease you mind, get a ruler, see if it will fit. 130 across, is there enough room, when the suspension is compressed and everything?

I had a huge one when i first got one of mine, but to replace was going to be expensive ($250 instead of $100)

I replaced the stock "rubber" with Pirelli City demons
Standard size - I don't think there is any benefit to going bigger at the back

The bike was transformed after the new tyres went on

It's still a piece of crap but it's a piece of crap that can be ridden faster / safer than before.

My opinion here --Dump just the front tyre for the moment. Get a relatively soft compound tyre with documented good wet weather charactoristics.
I'd actually give the guys at cycletreads a yeodle and see what they suggest
The rear isn't as urgent -you might as well wear it down before fitting a new one
I wouldn't bother with a fat tyre on the rear -the 120 will be cheaper and you wont run out of tyre before everythings on the deck anyways

No. Do not. They are not designed for it. Just put tubes in the tubeless tyres, there will be no problem with that.

4.60 is at the lower end of the 130 spectrum -- 120/90 is closer to 4.60 (and GN250s are way over-tyred anyway).

In terms of a 90/90-18, they make a BT45 in that size -- people rave about them, wet-weather supposed to be good as well.

CheersThe main thing is the rim size (should be stamped on the side of the rim). The recommended rim size for a 120 is around 3.5 to 3.75 . I don't know how big your back rim is but I would think it would be about that. I have a road bike with a 2.15 rim on the back with a 120-90-18 on it and it is slightly over-tired but I still have a lot of room inside the swingarm. The weight goes up too. I weighed a 110-80-18 (3.5kg) and a 120-90-18 (5.75kg). You don't want to add that to the unsprung weight of a bike with the size and power of your GN.

I got City Demons front and rear.
They were actually lighter than stock, the rear anyway.
Put a 130-90 on the back.
Adds circumfrence so takes 400 ish RPMs off at 100kmh, shame that I get the wobbles at around 120 kmh, probably because Im 1.77 tall and around 65, so might need to get fatter eh.
Im happy with them so sweet.

What did you guys pay for city demons?

And 7 days later, I agree -- fucking ace. Tips in like a giddy mofo. They didn't half have problems trying to get the bastard to bead, but.
