View Full Version : Gangs running drugs?

Got stopped this morning in West Auckland whilst riding behind traffic at about 35kph. :eek5:
Silver mufty cager flashed his puppies at me and pulled me over.
After removing my helmet and looking at him puzzled he stated the following:
"We have a standing order to stop all bikes at the moment. We have had some trouble with pursuits. Gang's are using motorcycles to traffic drugs, as they know that can out run us on a bike".
Wasn't sure what to say about that to be honest.
Have to say the guy was quite pleasant and opened up the conversation with "whats that a SV1000? i used to own a TL1000" - all said with a happy smile on his face.
He certainly wasn't lookin to fill a quota as he could have nailed me for not having my rego displayed (i had removed it last night in order to reposition it on the bike, unfortunately an over-tightened screw prevented me from re-attaching it).
Anyhow, after telling me his radio was broken so he couldn't run a check on my drivers licence he let me go.:bash:
Just thought I'd put this out there - it's quite possible there is a "crackdown" in place and thought that auckland riders may want to be aware and "take it easy" for the next couple of weeks.

Erm, there's nothing illegal at putting your focus onto a certain group. They do it to boy racers, amoung others. I'm personally happy for them to pull over bikers indiscriminantly (better than discriminantly, right) in order to try to nail drug dealers.

So, on that basis , an even better idea would be to stop all vehicles driven by black people ? Right? Just putting their focus on a certain group, after all.
And what I wonder do they intend to DO once they have stopped a bike? They can't search it (no reasonable suspicion of drugs, it's a random motorcycle). The rider is hardly going to admit he's carrying anything illegal.
The argument is nonsense also. "We are stopping all motorcycles, because we have a problem with motorcycles not stopping and getting away from us". Is it not obvious, that if motorcycles can indeed outrun the Man, then if they try to stop on who IS carrying drugs, he will simply speed off, and by their own statement they can't catch him.
And I doubt this was a STU or HP vehicle, or even a proper copper cop, probably a defective. So he could hardly stop very many , try as he might. And the chances of him actually stopping a carrier , out of those few on a random basis, would be a number closely approximateing zero.

*several well-conceived points*
Personally, I would imagine that the copper in question suspected Mr Anubis of being someone other than he was, presumably someone known to be of less than law-abiding character, and was intent on a quick catch-up.
Upon helmet removal and confirmation that his suspicion was unfounded, he trotted out a soothing "we're looking after y'all here" story to sooth the mind of the prole before departure and allay any potential annoyance at being singled out for attention.
Occasional such incidents are an unavoidable result of a proactive policing mandate. I would have no quarrel with an officer who pulled me over for a similar reason.

Don't gangs ride cruisers? How the hell do the cops use the excuse "can't catch them" They ride underpowerd overweight chromed turds.

to use the correct term "my vehicle road usage license" (the little blue thingy with an expiry date on it).
according to the LTSA website "You must display this label on the left-hand side of your motor vehicle's windscreen, or near your number plate (for trailers or motorcycles)."

Hey you can take it how you like, I was just stating the facts. Personally i think he was looking for someone else on a "blue motorcycle" and the "we're stopping everybody" excuse was just a weak placate. But there's no harm in taking the cautious approach.
P.S someone else mentioned it being a defective - it was an officer - actually there were 3 of them in the car.

kinda funny that a gang member would ride something that is bound to be pulled over by cops. Considerin ya can hide drugs everywhere.
Once i was a youth who snuck into town with a suitcase fulla piss. Took the bus and everything. You could prob sneak 50kgs of the stuff in a one of em ol 70's style cases. $5 for that from the sallies and $5 for the bus.
But no, lets ride something the cops are bound to pull over.

You forgot expensive overweight etc etc etc. And they need to get all that money from somewhere. I might be wrong but I don't think they're all Merchant Bankers - are they? Runnign drugs *might* be part of their income...
So to spend $3,000 on a quick Jappa is nothing... lo - it doesn't even look like a gang bike... so a fast disguise - and CHEAP.

Well if I was a cop, with a radio, ( he did admit his was not working B S )
And I was on a ""catch the drug trafficing biker" assignment
I would have at least two other cages parked ahead of me by say 2 k's, so that when I found said " drug trafficing Gang member on a bike"
Who promptly speed off into the distance, laughing at my feeble attempts of persuit,
A simple radio call to my "buddies" 2k up the track, out with the road spikes,
Down goes the egotistical Gang Biker, drugs and all. One collar thank you very much!
Simple really.
So dont think the cops are that stupid, if a dumb fuck like me can think of a senario that would catch said drug runner, bassed on the info of this thread.

Given that the OPs situation concerned a stop in traffic, not a road block, your scenario would require the cop to have a crystal ball to know that he was going to pull over a bike in a specific location. And a very great deal of rearranging of buddies and spikes throughout the day (incidentally, theya re not permitted to use spikes to stop motorcycles).
A road block type scenario might have greater legitimacy. "Sorry to stop you, Sir, but we have information that someone on a motorcycle is going to be running a consignment of drugs along this road, this morning. We don't have any more details, so we're stopping all bikes. I see you are not the man we want, apologies for the delay". Fair enough . I think. Probably. But that wasn't the picture painted. The picture there was : Cop sees a bike in traffic. "Hey look, a motorbike. Bet you anything he's carrying drugs, I'll stop him". The implicit assumption , motorcyclist=drug dealer IS objectionable. And I would object if stopped on that basis.

If one were going to carry a stash of illegal drugs from A to B, common sense would indicate that one would NOT do so at high speed! What fool would thus risk drawing needless attention to himself.

Well I see this has been moved to rants and raves so obviously noone particularly sees my experience this morning as a legitimate concern.
I admit the reason for the stoppage is probably complete BS - but i was doing nothing that warranted being stopped so still felt there may be a legitimate crackdown on checking licenses/rego/warrants for bikes and felt I should share/warn people.

You lot were obviously not riding in the '70's,and of questionable appearance - being stopped and questioned by the Police was a daily occurrence.I remember heading north one year the day after a gang killing, man were we hounded by the cops! Some weren't scared of authority though
Around 1970ish my old man & one of his colleagues (Christchurch City Council Traffic Officers) were on patrol out at New Brighton and engaged in a confrontation with a bunch of Epitaph Riders and arrested a couple. A few weeks later when they (old man & mate) were coming off swing-shift(2am finish) and back at central were taken too by a bunch of Epitaphs who'd broken into the building and got a fairly good hammering:bash:
As for gangs couriering drugs it isn't anything new by a long shot and what Subike has mentioned about local gang exploits in the late 80s is valid and a particular bike & gang member were well known in other motorcycling circles and also did time for his exploits, though most of the runners slipped underneath the radar.

Call me old fashioned but its a whole lot easier to see a rabbit if you scare it enough to move. And its a whole easier to see a runner, if you make him run.
The only runners i have done are when the cops genuinely wanted to pull me over. They may have only wanted to chat, but i was damned at that point in time to find out.
