    Question Gangs running drugs?

Got stopped this morning in West Auckland whilst riding behind traffic at about 35kph.
Silver mufty cager flashed his puppies at me and pulled me over.

After removing my helmet and looking at him puzzled he stated the following:

"We have a standing order to stop all bikes at the moment. We have had some trouble with pursuits. Gang's are using motorcycles to traffic drugs, as they know that can out run us on a bike".

Wasn't sure what to say about that to be honest.

Have to say the guy was quite pleasant and opened up the conversation with "whats that a SV1000? i used to own a TL1000" - all said with a happy smile on his face.

He certainly wasn't lookin to fill a quota as he could have nailed me for not having my rego displayed (i had removed it last night in order to reposition it on the bike, unfortunately an over-tightened screw prevented me from re-attaching it).

Anyhow, after telling me his radio was broken so he couldn't run a check on my drivers licence he let me go.

Just thought I'd put this out there - it's quite possible there is a "crackdown" in place and thought that auckland riders may want to be aware and "take it easy" for the next couple of weeks.

Stopping all bikes at the moment?

Hmm. Rather indiscriminate and marginally illegal I would guess. Proper suspicion and all that...

Erm, there's nothing illegal at putting your focus onto a certain group. They do it to boy racers, amoung others. I'm personally happy for them to pull over bikers indiscriminantly (better than discriminantly, right) in order to try to nail drug dealers.

So, on that basis , an even better idea would be to stop all vehicles driven by black people ? Right? Just putting their focus on a certain group, after all.

And what I wonder do they intend to DO once they have stopped a bike? They can't search it (no reasonable suspicion of drugs, it's a random motorcycle). The rider is hardly going to admit he's carrying anything illegal.

The argument is nonsense also. "We are stopping all motorcycles, because we have a problem with motorcycles not stopping and getting away from us". Is it not obvious, that if motorcycles can indeed outrun the Man, then if they try to stop on who IS carrying drugs, he will simply speed off, and by their own statement they can't catch him.

And I doubt this was a STU or HP vehicle, or even a proper copper cop, probably a defective. So he could hardly stop very many , try as he might. And the chances of him actually stopping a carrier , out of those few on a random basis, would be a number closely approximateing zero.

What is your problem with him pulling over motorcyclists? He's obviously not handing out tickets, he's just trying to do some good old fashioned police work. It seems trying to work as a cop is a damned-if-you-do type situation.

Personally, I would imagine that the copper in question suspected Mr Anubis of being someone other than he was, presumably someone known to be of less than law-abiding character, and was intent on a quick catch-up.

Upon helmet removal and confirmation that his suspicion was unfounded, he trotted out a soothing "we're looking after y'all here" story to sooth the mind of the prole before departure and allay any potential annoyance at being singled out for attention.

Occasional such incidents are an unavoidable result of a proactive policing mandate. I would have no quarrel with an officer who pulled me over for a similar reason.
