Bikestore

With a garage and some capable hands we're able to have a spanner night once a month in East Auckland.
Can we get some feedback to gauge interest; Lets see what you'd like to learn/achieve.
Feel free to add suggestions and comments
.

Would be great to get a handle on the basics and more of looking after my bike.......especially from the horses mouth.
Would also be good if the time was not too late in the evening so that those of us that live on the 'other side' can come strait after work instead of doing a huge round trip.
I would like to do, chain, oil, spark plugs, look after break and throttle cables etc. You never know I could be doing my own service.......

Make it either free or at cost-price.
Because the attendees will learn a lot and get an excellent impression of Bikestore (http://www.bikestore.co.nz), and will be your customers again and again.
They'll be "captured" in marketing-speak.
When I was looking for my first 250cc bike, I would have been strongy attracted to buying from a shop that had a night like that to learn to keep it safe mechanically and do small things myself.
Some shops sell you a bike and then don't seem to want to know about you after that. Those spanner nights will help form a relationship with your mechanically inexperienced customers.
Good luck!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you did with all the shit we dumped in your garage on Sunday. You can't fucken swing a cat in there, let alone a spanner.

Offer everything. Perhaps a different "topic area" each night?
One, possibly two per month?

I'll host the first one tomorrow night.
We can start by stripping my carbs from between immovable 23 yr old (inflexible) rubber boots (no longer able to replace with new), strip, clean (incl blocked jets & bleeders), replace O rings, re-set floats, re-assemble, re-install (without busting boots), prime, fire up, Balance carbs and open the beers (I'll buy):2thumbsup

Heat 'em in glycerine (the boots, not the carbs)

Count me in fella's. Would be keen to learn some of the more technical aspects of servicing, some suspension works such as fork seals etc. and maybe a bit about the engines (modern, ie fuel injected).
Will see you there.

I am very keen on this idea! I would love to learn anything from basic mechanics to learning how the engine actually 'goes' :P
Awesome!

Will keep an eye on this for a newbie friendly session first, no point in going into something way over my head, although i'll soon enough have a bike that will need plenty of work done to it if you need a volunteer.

Wodja mean what how where?
Glycerine. AKA Glycerol. As in glycerol trinitrate. Don't use that though.
However you please, I use the kitchen stove m'self, but you may have to wait until y' wife's out, women never understand these things
In the kitchen of course
(TIP: Y'dont need to do the whole boot, just the bit that goes on the carby. Saves on the glycerine. Stand it the right way in the saucepan. )
Oh, and break a wee bit twig off the nearest bush to keep the boot off the bottom. That stuff gets BLOODY hot so be careful. Works a treat though.

Cheers. Does this make them more pliable and a longer lasting rejuvination than chucking them in a snaplock bag after a good dose of silicone spray???

Any chance of a rough idea of area or does central Auckland mean "Central Akld" rather than South/West/east/north?
Location will possibly make a difference to my availability as will the time of "17:30 - 20:30" if your announcement post means what it says..... "* This event ignores DST"..... because that would make the time 4:30pm to 7:30 pm by current daylight saving time... unless those drugs I took earlier are working...:doobey:
Anyway... being a meticulously nit picky possibly drug crazed bastard I should probably be quite happy, as I usually finish work at 4:00 and work in St Helliers so a 15 minute zip into the central city would actually suit quite well.
Please confirm.. Cheers

I would have been keen except the time is not suitable. I don't know how many people could make that time into the city given that it's rush hour traffic. As a suggestion, if that's the time of day you want to do it, how about a Sunday?
Sundays are boring/free generally for most people, and there's no rush hour traffic at 5.30pm.
Good on you for doing this anyway.

Guys, the location is Meadowbank. 5 minutes form central Auckland on ya bikes! I usually say east Auckland until i get laughed at by the people who live East, i.e. Howick.
Any hows.. the time is NZ and as far as day light savings goes.. if the time on most peoples clock says 17:30 then.. yup... thats when it is :bleh:
We'll be here for a few hours so take ya time.. there'll be lots more evenings and chances to come up to speed.
As for weekends, at this stage this is a bit of a free be and we love 'our' time and 'our' kids too much.. plus when we do get a spare weekend we're all at the track or out riding!!!!!

I'm keen to attend on Wednesday - but I have to wait to hear from a digger man coming to tear up my back yard. He said either wed thurs or friday, but he would call today and let me know.
Hopefully I'll be enrolled to attend this by this evening!
