North Harbour Mini Motocross, King of the North 2008
Well what a great day out, the talent of the young kids/riders in MX here in NZ is looking good for the future of the sport, some of these kids, girls and boys are just incredible.
With arrange of ages, from 4 to 11 year old, and the different classes, ATV, trail, and MX, there was plenty of action.
My grandson was racing in the trail class, he did quite well finished fifth over all for the day, he was happy got a nice bit of silverware for his bedroom, he wanted to ride his KX65 told him to late, I had aready sent the entry form back.
think he would have gone ok, just hasn't had enough time on it at moment.
anyway here's the link to the pics.

Yeah I went out to watch a young up and comer, Jake Wightman in the 6-8 year class. It was a good day and there was some real good young talent present. Did you see that kid Maximus? Some real talent there.

It's a shame to see so many up and comers get too settled into the 9-11 year 65cc class, then hit the big track when they're 12 and get put off by other riders who were under them blast past them since they migrated over at 10 or 11.

i agree with this, we run a 65 class on the big track at pukekohe, and it really helps, i have been trying ot get MNZ to run a 8-11 65 class on the big tracks for a while,

Thats awesome as hell John, good on the young fulla, you must a very proud man of your Grandson. We have a young bloke up here in Warkworth (Hamish Dobbyn) doing extremely well as a 16 year old on a YZF 250. Competes Nationally and over seas and has a close freindship with Daryl King.

may have to join him into the Pukekohe club, as he lives out Waiuku, less travelling for me having to pick him up, or have his parents drop him off.
Funny thing is he wanted to do the trail ride you had on that same day.
He really likes the challenge, could be an enduro rider in the making.

I am very proud of him, I was talking to him after his practice sessions
on how the bike felt and what the track was like, he said there were a couple of spots he was having trouble with, after having a look over the spot, I told him to take a wider line coming in.
In his second race he said he had the little KLX110 tapped out in top gear going through that part of the track, I think the Honda's and the Polini he was chasing have better suspension, they could hold a good line through there.
Just watching him riding make's me proud, doesn't matter if he's first or last, its seeing the smile on his face.
