Why? .

Because Science Is Not Fun. You know how they promote science with all those interesting things and crazy experiments and weird facts?
It's all a lie!

When you actually do it, you spend a couple of years learning formulae and tapping numbers into computers and factorizing binomial numbers to get the co-efficient Goebbels Energy at Pi over theta-cos 4 epsilon.

I guess the fun stuff starts at the end of second year or something, but I'm not that keen to plod through two years of numbers and wrote-learning.

I was only doing it for the free psychotherapy and hot first-years anyway.

Fancy a holiday, mate...my gardens are overgrown, my house needs a good going over, some painting to be done and the windows really need a clean...
it would be a nice change from the rat race of real estate.

It's funny you should say that. I've got two sisters who are teachers, both intermediate school level, and both specialise in science. The younger one was employed to make the science curriculum "fun and exciting", which is pretty much bullshit, and reinforces my theory that 'education' these days is more about entertainment and social programming than solid learning or teaching kids how to think.

my theory that 'education' these days is more about entertainment and social programming than solid learning or teaching kids how to think.

if you teach people to think, they may commence to question the status quo, which is NOT A GOOD THING in a dictatorship.

Soon the very words about dissent and rebellion will disappear from the lexicon, making the proles even more compliant. Give them enough reality TV and crap takeaways and they dont complain anyway.

At high school level, teachers are just caregivers, allowing the parents of these hoodlums time at home to cultivate weed.

Off topic and tangential, I know. But I completely disagree - science teaching should be about making exploring the world around you fun and exciting, and that's all about creating a lifelong passion for learning.

As you were.

Hi Have you had your knee op yet and also how did you get on with the 2 job interviews.
Knee op went well thanks for asking and also remembering. Walking without a limp and have just ordered a new bike (today).

I haven't had any interviews. Neither party got back to me after seeing my CV :-). I am not concerned (yet) having been buyin g and selling things, which is good fun. Probably won't earn enough however it is getting me by.

Have my 20 year old daughter coming over from the UK to see me next week, so will start looking after that.

You missed my point. It should be about focus and depth, and education rather than mere entertainment.

Or you missed mine - science is all about the wonder of things, and if you lose that you may as well not bother - science is about more than an accumulation of facts it's a way of thinking.

Sorry again (tangent), but i completely agree.
If school isnt about fun then the whole country is on the dole.
Also actual studies have found those that enjoy what they are learning not only remember it better - but complete it faster. Where as those that do not enjoy - either do not remember it, or in extreme cases do not even complete the studies.
However to contradict my argument a little - without a challenge in education, boredom will set in
