Wrong answer. You are in the clear lane. Please read the post slowly. Part of being a motorcyclist is having consideration for other road users is it not?
Sorry. I was distracted by your "no way a motorcyclist is going to see said branch in time to stop if coming the other way." I would remove the tree branch (really).

Unfortunately, KB Is Not a Democracy (tm), and as dictators go, Mental Pants is even less interfering and grumpy than SpankMe (if that's possible) so I doubt that it will ever happen.

As it should be.

If people want to hang themselves in a public forum, let them go right ahead.

Why should an official stop them - it only gives them another excuse.

Why do I continue to do it?

Because the message of accepting personal responsibility and accountability needs to be constantly hammered home. Because if it isn't we will continue to blame cagers, cheesecutters, diesel, tyres, pedestrians, weather etc etc etc, and nothing will ever change.

I think you'll find that you have even disregarded the people who have ADMITTED fault on their accidents and actually insult THEM too, the ones you should be thanking for making the roads safer. You completely ignored every positive post regarding riding safely in this thread, as well as nit pick the "I crashed, this is how I feel I could have bettered myself on it" posts to suit your agenda as a shitstirrer.

You're a fake with an affinity to being infamous, so with that, I'm probably gonna sit back and watch the shit sling from side to side as a fly on the wall, in the famous words of yod...

The thing is mate, most of us do support the intent of the message. It is the delivery and latterly, the arrogance and obnoxiousness of the poster that upsets us.
My concern is, that riders who would do well to heed his message, are also totally and utterly turned off by the delivery that they aren't seeing the message at all...then it is, just like KM, a waste of space and energy....

Again, very few disagree with the message. There is no excuse for poor riding like that video demonstrates. However, did you realize on Katman's other 'safety' thread, using his trolling style, he has in effect goaded some into timing themselves around the coro loop now. It could well lead to a very similar outcome to that grim video you just posted. The most dangerous thing I've seen around KB of late is Katman himself.

I have not supported you in this instance mate (though I have in the past). Your message is good, but you chose the wrong accident to spout your road safety message about. You also tend to lump all riders into your opinions, I find that incredibly offensive and frankly, now you are annoying me!

Never met you, and wonder how long you have actually been riding accident free and pure as the driven snow! I got my legal right to ride 2 wheels in 1976. Ridden a few kms between now and then, had a few breaks off two wheels along the way, raising kids and the like.

I have had a few offs along the way, none too serious thank goodness. I take full responsibility for my riding, though I really struggle to see how I could have avoided my last woopsie, cut off by a big dog, on a left hand bend at 25k/ph, curbed my rim and fell into a drain! Fucken dog! You need to learn how to deliver your message to the fuckwits that abound without really offending the rest of us!

You know there is even a piece of Auckland motorway where they actually set out markers so you can time and calibrate your speed along a 5km piece of the road? Weird that eh?

I have been known to time how long it takes me to get home from work at night along a given route, then compare it to an alternative? Call me dangerous if you like, I dont care.

Of course.

But, y'know. There isn't a culture amongst North Island motorcyclists of time-trialling the Coro loop. Not one that I've ever observed, anyway.

I doubt it'd ever really take off, though. The loop's a bit too long. I suspect most guys, even the ones who ride it at warp speed, would agree with me that doing timed runs all the way around would be far less fun than just riding the loop with some friends, stopping at the usual watering holes and enjoying the roads for what they are.

The only input you've had in this thread is to bitch about your father getting an infraction, and btw it wasn't from me. People can and will form their own opinions of Katman, just like they will of you. Heh, your second post in this thread is a bitch about getting a red rep from me.

Katman I am trying to understand why you care so much and why you purposely insulted Sean in his thread, knowing full well that Sean would be reading it.

What I really want to know would katman go to the hospital, with Sean lying in bed with fractured back, broken legs, look Sean in the eye and tell him he is lying about having memory loss because he caused the accident? Because thats what you did... you werent there in person but it had the same effect. There are more note worthy people in KB I would rather listen to, people who have been in the same situation as Sean that I would rather get insight from, (people who have contacted me and given me their accounts of their personal accidents and road to recovery), then from a guy who kicks a man while hes down, that uses Seans Accident as an example of someone making excuses. Fucktard!

I was worried at first about Seans thread as its a very personal thing to have put on the internet, but then I also thought it might help for people to understand that when you have accident it doesn't just effect the person who had the accident. Quasi's Mouring Thread was more useful than this one. I cant remember who posted it, but someone said that when you ride, you not only ride for yourself but for your family and loved ones. I dont care about excuses, I care that people ride as safely as they possibly can, and unfortunately that sometimes is just not enough.

Let's get a few facts straight.

If you look closely you'll see that I posted in Sean's thread saying I was pleased to hear he was on the mend.

No other comment from me was directed at Sean while his condition was serious.

I have merely suggested he should be honest with himself when it comes to the accountability for his accident. I don't see that as insulting.

Yes, I'm well aware that the Welly riders do have a culture of TTing the Rimutaka hill road, but a 5-minute ride is a lot easier to do that with than a 200km one.

It is insulting from the point of view that you are assuming (if not implying) that he's going to absolve himself from any responsibility for the accident. Do you really think he could lie in the hospital for weeks, then spend months recuperating, and not say to himself, "if only I had done/not done..." ? :spudwhat:
The mere fact that you suggested that "he be honest with himself" casts aspersions on his character.
Perhaps you had good intentions, but it comes across as tactless at best, and arrogant, condescending, and "holier than thou" if taken at face value.

I agree with some of your safety messages, Katman, but your delivery needs some fine-tuning. It's kind of like a carefully considered thought or two scribbled on a piece of cardboard with a purple crayon, tied to a brick and thrown through someone's bedroom window at 3 AM. Would you yourself read such a missive (missile?!) in the spirit intended?

I have the crayon already - thats all they allow us to write with here (nothing sharp).

Given that the message is already on a brick that has been thrown thru the window saying "or I'll throw a brick through your window" kind of superfilious?

vifferman

Perhaps it would be best to not sign it.
Or just sign it with a "X", or with "A concerned and underpaid employee who fancies the look of your pussy".
Or you could just throw a random selection of bricks and random messages through the window on random nights, and eventually he'll give everyone a raise.

I wasn't calling Katman out to prove how fast he could ride a motorcycle. If I'd been doing that, I'd have invited him to the next drag session at Meremere or the trackday on Friday (although he seems to be doing a good job of inviting himself to that - should I call you to pick him up from A&E afterwards, or does he have someone more local that can sort him out?)

My response to badjelly is that the word "proving" can easily degenerate into something that may not have been initially intended, especially if those doing the "proving" to each other are not exactly best buds. It takes two (or more) mature people to ensure that it doesn't. I have no problems riding with him, and i'm sure his courtesy as a rider isn't just cos I'm his sis. He's been riding many years (well over half his life) so i'm sure he's learnt some important stuff along the way. (And no, that wasn't intended to imply that you haven't).

Until he fell off, banged his head, and suffered some memory loss, and said he did not remember what happened. Hope you would call him out and say he was not prepared to take responsibility for his actions! I have bookmarked this post BTW, in case I ever see you dealing out your tripe to someone that has done a wheelie and lost it.

Any foam around my mouth is the beer froth coming out my nose...the comic relief is totally one way. If you didn't upset so many people with your unsubtle barbs, you'd actually be quite hilarious.
Sadly, you are not. So I'll blame the alcohol for making me laugh.

And not my incredibly clever triple pun a few posts earlier?

Sigh. I spread my finest efforts like the proverbial pearls. I even had a quadruple pun the other day, and noone at all understood it.

It's a hard life.

this is the sort of crowd who may benefit from his online A bomb approach, irl

Nope, the young crowd never has listened and never will! At least not until they've had an experience to help them put themselves into a realistic perspective. I state this based on experience.

Sounds fair, Theres nothing worse than some idiot that continually comes undone wether it be on a bike or just life in general & dosent accept any responsibility for it at all, or worse still, creates lies that they actually believe to make it all everyone elses fault.

Thank you Mikkel, sounds not unlike another post I made the other night about the dilemma of some just having to learn the hard way. But I'm sure there are some (young and older) who are not completely resistant to learning from others. The trick is to weigh it, sift it and (oh no, got sidetracked by thoughts of baking just then) and determine whether it's applicable to yourself and then act accordingly, or file for future reference.

According to The Great Pussy(insert "bowing" smilie here), it is applicable to all of us, cos we all ride like idjits, with no regard for other road users, our fellow motorcyclists, indeed , even our own life! Apart from him of course, he's perfect! (apparently)

Well, there are many ways you can have an eye-opening experience. It's not always necessary to break skin and bones to realise that it's time to STFU, STFD and LTFC.

Also, it's not always a lacking willingness to listen, sometimes it's just not realising that there's something worth listening to.
And Katman, while your message is mostly good - your delivery is not worth listening to. In that way you just come across as another resentful old man with a stick up his arse that isn't worth listening to. I've met a few of those I think - but I can't say for sure since I tend to forget about people like that pretty quickly.

Preaching just doesn't work with young people and thinking adults - just accept it and move on.
