View Full Version : Auckland: Ride to Raglan and BBQ in One Tree Hill 29/03/08

The Idea:
Doing a 250cc ride to Raglan On saturday Morning. Back in Auckland in the afternoon (maybe 4 ish). Go trough the butcher, buy meat and drinks and have a BBQ in One tree hill In EJ's honour - since his bike is not fixed yet, he will come to the BBQ (by a cage I presume). Talk bikes and stuff like that.
BBQ will be on if people are interested. Otherwise it will be just a ride to Raglan.

The Plan:
Meeting BP Autobahn Papakura 9:00 am for a 9:30 am blast off.

Thinking of SH22 on the way to Raglan. On the way back we can do SH22 again or try some new route. If someone knows a back route for return you are most wellcome to lead us trough it. GiJoe1313 took us on a back road one time so we will see if we can replicate it. If we get lost we will just get back via SH22 which is a good fun too :)

Ride is Weather permitting.
Weather Looks good for saturday, but if the forcast is wrong and its raining heavily ride is off.

See you BP autobahn 9:00. Look for a guy with Green/white/Black Leathers - thats TOTO

Theres a few of us adventure riding types wandering that way on saturday via the coast road, if you see a bunch of scruffy trail bikes, triumph scramblers, etc around 1ish at Raglan thats us, wander over & say hello.
I think we might be somewhere near the pub.....

Have a good ride tho, should be a nice day.

I'm looking like a definite maybe at this stage. Got plans for the arvo/evening so probably can't do BBQ but fingers crossed I can make the ride.

Just the excuse I need to kill my tyres a bit more to justify getting new ones for Taupo :)

Weather is looking mint on MetVUW too.

I just found out that to get a new part for my speedo thingy ('Speedo gear box' on the front wheel) it's going to cost me about 170 dollars :eek5: :shit:
I might have to miss this one and be a slave to the parents and earn some moolah.

On a quick note; anyone know of someone with a spare front GN wheel I could get a speedo gear box off for a box of beers?
:pinch:

:eek5: Dood! so not cool! $170 is seriously painful!
Just learn what revs in what gear is what speed so you dont get a ticket, and you'll have REAL low k's when you come to sell it! :D

Yus! Tod, our plan to eliminate the GN's are coming through. Now for Dylan's GN... we'll beat them on the gravel one way or another! Muhah, Muhahahahaha

TOTO, What is the estimated travel time to the destination and back? I've got work at 2 and I'd like to come.

According to google maps travel time in one direction from Bp Autobahn to Raglan is 2hours. so minimum 4 hours riding time. Plus time for some food in raglan and also some rest stops - that would make it about 5.5 hours at best. This means back in auckland roughly 3:30 ish or maybe later depending if we find that back road or not. All this is rough estimate.

So i don't know how this fits with your working plans ...maybe its time for a sickie ...

Badger , Magash is just kidding. He wouldnt dare touch the GNs - he knows they are our good luck charms and they keep us safe.

Btw, I can be passed by a walking person if I'm riding on Limestone gravel

You were quicker than me on the big stuff (where you passed me), but i was keeping pace, maybe even catching a touch on the gentler stuff, and i was doing about 80-90 most of the way (some bursts to 100, some slower patches around 60)

Well it was an amazing ride, unfortunate incident with a quad bike but the rest of it was stunning.

All tight twisties all the way to Raglan, road surface was.. interesting. Odd patches of gravel, turkeys, cows, sheep all over the road.

Cheers for the ride guys!

Yeah cheers to all involved :apint: Really enjoyed the day. Always nice to meet more KBer/bikers.

Have copied the vids to the laptop but have yet to view them properly. Looks good from what I've seen so far.

Was *so* glad the cow didn't cause a repeat of the quad bike incident. Looked like it was threatening to as well.
