So, got my full license, sold my 250, but have only $5,500 to 6,000 (at a stretch) to spend. Like the SV650's but have yet to see one for this money. Any help? Would need to hold its value reasonably well as i'd like to upgrade in 12 months. Help appriciated.

You could probably get my old R6 for $6k, it has 50,000km or so on it, and is in pretty good nic.

i think the guy that owns it is on here as merwood.

Dam I was going to suggest that Laverda 650, Nice bikes need to be ridden like a two stroke 250, Top quality components, A nice piece of kit and as a fun weekend bike could be good fun. But they need to be ragged to work properly

yea that is true :pinch: ,is the exact same engine as mine ,Alot of fellow teapot owners have put the oil cooled Bandit 1200 engines in them (straight swap) ,bah those teapots ,even with the bandit engine swaps, just don't really appeal to me at all :(

You can get a nice VFR400 at that price. They're as quick as a SV650

Hold out for the SV, I picked mine up for $5500 in December which apparently is peak buying. In theory winter is the buyers market as people aren't wanting to ride in winter.

And trust me, they are worth the wait (you might also have to wait so you can afford the tickets as they just go!)

OK, so it's left to me to put in a word for the CBR600's is it. we bought a '90 for $3,500 and it's still the best bike we ever owned - bar none. At the other end, I paid $6,750 for the 2000 model. So somewhere in that 10 year gap is a CBR with your name on it if you are looking for one of the best all round sportsbikes.

The thing about the CBR600s is that they do nothing spectacuarly but everything superbly and you can tour a 1,000km in a day and really enjoy the experience. No, you can love the experience. I just had the misfortune of being lent an 07 R6 for the evening - that was long enough. Whilst it had the most spectacular power delivery (understatement!), it was crap to ride comfortably. The point is, be very careful to think about how and where you want to ride the bike you buy.

Depends whether you want a scruffy quality bike, or a shiney newer bike.

my turn to put a good word in for the Koreans. My GT650R is never given me a moments grief.

This is very clean. You will likely get it for 6k.

That may be true of the old CBRs but the 07-08 is spectacular in every department. It's like Honda found their mojo again.

No, you can love the experience.

This hasn't changed though.

Go take out a new CBR600RR and I think you'll find it's better than the 07 R6. The 08 R6 with YCC-I might give the CBR a run though.

The point is, be very careful to think about how and where you want to ride the bike you buy.

Totally true. And ride lots before you buy.

I was fortunate in picking up my 1999 Kawasaki ZX-6R for $5900. I'd been looking for quite a while for the right bike to come at the right price, and that one finally did. So, keep your eye on trademe and have patience... the bike you want will come along, especially with winter coming up - historically a good time to snap up a good deal. :niceone:

In reference to the Laverda 650, I gotta say, you'll only regret 4 things if you buy one, namely parts, service, reliability and (especially) RESALE VALUE.

As a guide, pretty much anything Japanese will give you a good run, so long as its been serviced like Brittany Spears

The Laverda, is definetly something to buy if you dont mind keeping it forever and having had test rides on both 650 and 750 formula's lovely bikes, and great fun to ride. Why didnt i buy one - RESALE. If i had the cash and could buy that formula at the right money that i didnt have to worry about resale etc, then i would love to have it sitting in my garage.
