Yep after 3 wks of riding, I now have no bike!
All i can say is htanks to Big Dog and all the guys for the AWNR ride on the wednesday nights you have prob saved my life!:doctor:
I was coming off at Ticoma stree off ramp on my way to work this morning 6:45am slowed down to my normal speed of around 50kph. there was a guy at the stop sign stopped not moving. I slow down a little more to make sure that he has seen me. still no movement! And then you guessed it he pulls out in front of me. to my credit i didn't lock any of the brakes up and manage to pull the bike you to around 25-30km before i hit him but i hit!
I go flying, bike skids down the road i land on my shoulder!:crybaby:
I am ok but my bike is a write off:crybaby: now the fun part of sorting out the insurance!

Why did you slow when he showed no sign of pulling out you muppet?? It was probably your fault, he saw you slow down and figured you were turning or stopping

Bit of a rough call when you didn't see the incident.
Glad to hear you are OK and can at least still type.
What did the guy say after you got up to count your limbs and exchange details?

Dude, im glad you're OK! I often move right into the path of their eyesight and wait until they have actually made eye contact with me before I believe they are not going to just pull out and run me off the road - it has saved me many a time!!

Glad you're OK, sorry about the bike. Now for the compulsory quiz:
Do you think there was anything you could have done to avoid the accident and/or reduce its severity?
Do you think he might have pulled out because you slowed down?
If so, could you have slowed down but still made it clear you were expecting him to stay stopped? (Bazooka shot across the bows, perhaps?)
I'm not trying to criticise, I just want opinions from the person in the best position to know.

It's surprising how many people still pull out once they've seen you and made eye contact with you. CRAZY CRAZY!

That's why you move right out to the edge of your lane WHILE BRAKING and looking at them. If they are about to start moving you can usually tell and then you brake.
Get air horns. I had them on my KR and they worked wonders!!
Man sorry to hear...
Good luck and have fun with the insurance ;)

Do you think there was anything you could have done to avoid the accident and/or reduce its severity? Once i saw he was pulling out i only had 1 sec or so to react to it.
Do you think he might have pulled out because you slowed down?
i was slowing dow to the legal speed limit as i was just coming off the motorway it drops for 100 to 50 around an open corner. he pulled out so he says because he didn't see me at all. he saw the car behind me but not me
If so, could you have slowed down but still made it clear you were expecting him to stay stopped? (Bazooka shot across the bows, perhaps?)
Bazooka shot across the bow would have helped!:gob: once he started to pull out i had so little time to react i think i did well just to slow the bike at all i couldn't go round him as there was an island in the way and oncoming traffic
I'm not trying to criticise, I just want opinions from the person in the best
It all good man i have been trying to think what i could have done differntly all morning but i think i did everything i could with my limited experance as i got off pretty lightly really, couple of scrapes sore back that sort od thing but no permant damage. except for the bike that is

It is a off ramp slowing from 100 to 50 i have no choice but to slow. there is no where to trun as i can't trun left into the road he was coming from it is a one way! right is the entrance to the motorway a no right hand turn. as for stopping i am coming off the motorway with a line of cars following me (That he saw) why on earth would i stop in the middel of the road?!?!?:oi-grr:

2nd April 2008, 17:09
from what i understand the fairings are 2k on there own and they need replacing that is apart from any more damage that has been done. peg, handel bars maybe the forksthat sort of thing. the bike is only insured for 5k so yeah it wouldn't take much more to write it off

No good dude!
I'm on the road heading for work at that time too - I'm extra mistrusting of all cages at intersections at that time, as the cagers are all still asleep in their nice warm cars (red light running seems extra egregious at this time too!)
I employ a nice little weave (like tyre warming) when heading towards intersections with waiting cages - seems to help the buggers see me a little better IMHO. A little high beam can be helpful too - a solid blast though, flashing might make the buggers think you're letting them in.
At least it sounds like a cut-and-dried case mate - still a bummer though.

If someone looks like their going to pull out infront of me I give a blip of my horn just to say dont be a cunt and pull out on me.

That's why I pretty much starting cycling eveywhere this year, but you still have to be just as careful.
At least if they take me out, it's my crusty old $40.00 bicycle, not the CBR 929..
You can never be too careful and plus, Auckland drivers are pretty much up there among the worst.

2nd April 2008, 17:48
yea I do a fair bit of cycling too, and you can always just jump up a curb when its a bit hairy. but I think cars have even less respect for you on a bicycle.

Hope the car got fucked up as well BTW

What helps me to get noticed is not my horn but my exhaust, sometimes when things like this happen I just pull in my clutch and let my RF go up to 16'000 RPM, with an aftermarket exhaust (hey even stock will do) you will get a lot more priority on the streets, at least thats what I have found. Everyone looks at the bike (and hopefully its big enough to impress/scare them (not sure of the word here, but Im sure you get my drift)), also have the lights always on and avoid colours like silver or white, (not that there is anything wrong with these colours, just hard to notice thats all), other than that, just always asume that everyone is an idiot and is trying to kill you, that way you will not be suprised but have an escape route in mind, (eg pulling to the right of the road when there is a car at the intersection) but I am glad you are alright, have fun on the roads

lol yeah thats the last time i make a grand entrance!
I am alright a little sore now that i am home and not doing anything but other than that i am very lucky to only come off with the superficial injuries that i did.:doctor:
the insurance is going alright at the mo. my wife works for the insurance company so they are handling it well, the guy that hit me was insured so that is all good. bike is being assessed tomorrow so should have some news by the end of the week i would imagine.
I am hoping the don't write it off as have become attached to my little suzi and would be sad to see her go.:crybaby:
thanks for the concern everyone and thanks to all the 3 bikers that stopped just to see if i was alright. :msn-wink::niceone:

By slowing down you may have made the gap appear a little more makeable and so he took his chance somehow forgeting that once in front of you he cant actually accelerate fast enough to get out cleanly.
In those sorts of cases I normally speed up a little to leave no doubt in their mind that they cant make the gap although my bike is a bit bigger and alot noiseir than a gsx250.
Good to hear your ok though.

Bad luck about the accident..... but thankfully your alright.
Chalk up another 'life experience'.
As it heads to winter can everyone please remember that the cagers have problems seeing bikes during summer so now they're even more stupid.
