Yesterday afternoon I had a call from one of my fellow workers, that I had a flat tyre.
Went down to check and yep it was as flat as the provebial pancake.
Pissed off as the tyre is only 1 month old and only has about 4000 km on it.
Upon checking there is a piece of steel imbedded in one of the grooves in the tread.
Must have picked it up on the motorwar on the way into work.
Anyway, I rang the missus and she came and picked me up from work. This morning I had a lift in to work by cage, got the cash in my pocket for a new tyre (only 1 month old, grrrr).
Over night I left the bike inside the building, as an anti theft measure.
I was going to ride the bike down to a shop at my lunch break and have the tyre sorted.
Now I get an e-mail from our stores dept. They were moving something and have snapped my clutch lever off.
Now I need to go to the shop, buy a new clutch lever, go back to the bike and fit it, then find a shop that will put a new tyre on the bike, ride it there (very gingerly).
Sometimes it doesnt seem worth it. You just seem to be getting to a place of comfort, things just seem to be getting into line and along comes the bluebird of happiness and drops a large one right on top of you.
My bike is already a mess, I have been struggling to afford to fix all that needs to be done. Now back to stage 1 again.
2 steps forward and 5 steps back.
The money I have saved to get the lights fixed, new brake pads and a few other little bits and pieces will now go on just getting it running again.
Too proud to ask for financial help from the family. I make or break on my own bat. Unfortunately I have had a shit load of the latter.
Rant and rave over.

Yep, life can really suck sometimes. I used to get sooo streesed out about things now I just live with it. Funnily enough good things started happening when I made a conscience decision to just "suck it up" and do the best with what Ive got now. If all that fails then I recommend beer and lot's of it!!

Why not borrow a work trailer and take the bike down on that? Hell they broke it.

I think I must have been a load more than wicked. Not been exactly a saint in this life.
Thanks for your wishes GIJoe1313
The way my luck has gone over the past couple of decades I dont know if I would ever recognise the fact if it ever changed.

Just ring the bke shop and ask them to come pick up your bike. Almost all of them have pick up trucks and will come to your aid providing you buy something off them or they gonna repair your bike ( which they are). Try that. Know people who do that and are bloody happy.

they are
but I wouldnt
the punture can weaken the tyre at the punture point.
the repair can also further weaken it or create a hard spot.
you dont want either.
you only got two rubbers between you and the road
Would you use a vulcanised condom for sex?
no?
Bike tyres and condoms, the two types of rubbers you never compromise
the punishment for doing so is life changing!

I fail to dissagree, Not worth the risk in my book, it might last the life of the tyre but the consequences of it not doing so are to frightening to contemplate.

How does a clutch lever just 'snap' off?
Grub
4th April 2008, 09:56
... ride it there (very gingerly).
I wouldn't.
With the luck you seem to be having, you'll somehow come to grief and scratch or damage something else. Riding with a completely flat tyre is not controllable. Take the advice to use a trailer.
I assume that work is paying for the clutch lever???? Point out to them that you have to get it to the shop to get the lever replaced and without a lever, it can't be ridden ... i.e. turn one of those steps back into 2 steps forward.

I've ridden bikes with completely flat rear tyres for many kilometres.
Slowly like the man said.
It's quite controllable.
ront tyres is trickier. Can still be done, though.

Agreed, for some reason i thought he was in Kinglsnd, right in the city centre of Auckland and was thinking intersections, pedestrians and traffic lights. But now I look at his profile, I see {yawn} that it has some silly shit in the "location" field. So I'm prolly wrong - again.

Without the clutch lever the engine will not fire, got one of those silly cutoffs to aid newbies trying to start the biker in gear, I was going to ride it and have done so on previous occasions.
Work has offered to sling it in the back of a van and take it to a shop for me. Just rang Haldanes and they can do it and replace the lever.
Work is arguing about the lever. It seems that it was partly broken earlier but still strong and working, they say it was already damaged so they arent paying for it. $60 for an international company (tightwads).
Any one need a computer engineer, 2\3rd line network support engineer?
Preferably in Sth Auck.
Thanks all of you who have answered this call, was a little low yesterday. You all have helped

$386 later I am back on the road.
Firm didnnt spring for the clutch lever, they argued that ity showed signs of previous damage som they werent responsible even though it was their workers who actually smashed it off.
They did supply the van with which I transported the bike.

+1. They still did it.
Hope you get some compensation at least, and glad you're able to get back on the road again.
