Just curious if any KBers were riding any of the chase bikes at the Triathlon in New Plymouth today?

Yep. Jamo & myself did both days (the NZ races saturday + the world round of the ITU champs yesterday). Just don't get us mixed up with that Idiot on the white BMW from the TV production team who very nearly took out a competitor head on!

Heh, that's why I asked. I was the TV3 shooter with the black hat shooting by the ambulance when that wee incident occurred. Definite pity I wasn't rolling. :)
I've shot on the back of a bike a couple of times - road races are good, lots of time & room. Also shot the Wellington cycle street race off a bike. That wasn't so fun, I was convinced WCC were trying to kill me with all their bumps & holes in the road surface.

I always wondered how riders get picked to do that sort of work - do they advertise or is it by word of mouth?

They got let down last year by a group of Ulysses members (they had a clash of dates) & a personal friend who is heavily involved in ITU rang me to see if I could help. They were obviously happy as they asked me again to organise suitable bikes & riders for this year.
This morning I got a thank you call & confirmation they would ask me again next year so we must be doing something right.
Basic requirements are: Comfortable with a pillon moving around on the back at low speed, stable bike at slower speeds (cyclists average 40-50 kph) and a big dose of sensibility.
All 6 who did it will get a fuel donation and have indicated they would do it again - even for love (not mine but following the ladies race...)
We got to do a couple of laps recce after the roads were closed and before the race started plus during the race a little throttle is required to pass a group & give a cameraman time to dismount & set up their next shots.
It's surprising how bumpy the city streets are at 041kph or those numbers rearranged:innocent:.
