Heard an HRD (Vincent) Rapide last weekend at Wellsford. Beautiful, deep, rich, throb-knob music to the ears.
The 998 cc Series A Rapide Vincent cost $600, produced 45 hp (34 kW), and was capable of 110 miles per hour (180 km/h). and was thus the slowest of their V-type twins.
Now -For Sale: 1950 Vincent Rapide: Matching numbers. Sound, original machine, 10000 miles since professional engine rebuild, full VOC history. £26,500.00
Sounds like a bargain.

Ducati's only sound good when they're moving. On Sat I was at a Tavern near Pongaroa and a Ducati 749 parked next to my bike and all I heard was rattle, loose bolts and more rattle sound from this thing while the guy parked it.
One of our group mistook the sound as comming from my bikes exhaust and told me to check the bike as something may have broke

Hmm - I have often thought the same. Last weekend I waited around to hear a $30k plus Ducati fire up.
I was expecting aural bliss (not to be confused with 'oral bliss'). Unfortunately it had stock pipes and the 'bolts in a paint can' noise of the dry clutch over rode the muffler noise.

Then the Desmosedici started up soon after...[spectators walking away by now] the bike was just idling away while waiting to get a little bit of temperature going....the throttle was wound a little more...say 5/6000rpm & you can start to here more internal mechanical sounds than the exhaust!..."buy then people were gathering around by the numbers"..The bike was still ever so slowly increasing in rev's[warming up]...that it got to a point where I'm going fuck! that's getting pretty loud"more mechanical sounds that exhaust!"..then all of a sudden.......Vrrrrrrrroah...Vrrrrroah...a couple of blips happened &...Fuck me!... that was the best sounding Schnizzle I've ever heard & it gave me chill's man......I just couldn't believe how much noise came out of that.

Twins are cool! My TL1000S with 2 bros pipes sounds fab. My Norton commando was awesome, with its pipes. My old triumph with hog dog pipes was cool.
Any Ducatis with stock pipes, like my Darmargh are sublime.
Well tuned Harleys sound sweet - the ones that dont fart & backfire like a flatulent ol man - which of course are the ones who ride them.
However what really spins my wheels is a Suzuki sportsbike 750 or 1000 as it hits 10 grand! They scream and scream for more, more noise than a tight slut whos drunk too much, and that can sound cool too lol.
Yamaha R6 from about 14000 to 16500 rpm.

I must add, that although not the BEST sounding motorcycle.... the 1000cc Desmo GP bike was the most insane sounding motorcycle I've ever heard. OK picture this, QP for Laguna Seca the first year back to the US for MotoGP (the race Nicky won) I am standing on the pedestrian bridge and the bikes are passing directly below at close to 300kph. They are LOUD!!!! The Ducati was very unique and I took out my earplugs and just stood there in awe. I couldn't see the bikes, because the bridge was covered, but the SOUND.... holly cow, the sound was insane!!!!

Worst sounding bike........... standing next to a mobile dyno with an open piped z1000 on full noise in top gear....... when it dropped a valve... the owner took a few seconds to clutch it....... then the unbraked dyno began to slow.... but as the guys clutch was dragging slightly and hot it started to engage again.... now too hot to knock it out of gear and the noise was "mechanically painful"
One valve came out the exhaust and embedded itself in a ford transit on the other side of the carpark..... and various bits of cylinder head / valves etc eventaully flew out the exhaust onto the tarmac........ took about 2 mins for the dyno to slow enough to apply the final brake.
Oh happy days:facepalm:
