Well as some will know i went for a small side a few weeks ago. Anyway the bike isn't to bad but my gear was shot. So i called up the insurance on Tuesday. Got all my stuff together wed, gave them the final bit of info today and the cash will be in tonight or tomorrow :first: so while the call center is populated by air heads they have gotten the job done :)

So good on ya State.

And that is with you having an exemption from the license conditions I assume.

When my RF900 got stolen after 3 weeks of ownership, STATE paid out in less that 10 days, and I got back exactly what I paid for it too. I never had any hassles at all.

State paid out within 10 days of my claim on my gear, only took 10% off for depreciation, even encouraged me to claim on my gloves. In that case, simply a fuss free enjoyable transaction.

They have definitely sorted their act out recently. I guess their shit rep must have been costing them customers.

I hate frigging insurance companies.

One insurance company tried getting out of paying when my car got rear ended by a moron, I couldn't have been less at fault. It took them months to pay out, and for my car to be repaired. Guess which one that is... S....

So, about 2 years ago, my house got broken into, I lost all my snap on tools, heaps of other gear, some brand new car audio gear that was sitting there waiting for a decent car to go into. TV, stereo etc etc... The insurance company put an investigator on me, they thought it odd that someone who works wearing a tie would have thousands of dollars in tools... They ended up paying about 30 cents in the dollar after a six month wait. The treatment was astounding considering I had paid for years, and never had a claim...

I've changed insurance cover from that company (all 7 policies), and instead of relying on the goodness of human nature, I have an expensive alarm that's monitored...

The most utterly useless pack of wankers I have ever had the missfortune to deal with.
They lie, to your face, and expect thanks for it.
They will use every dirty underhanded trick in the book to stall, misslead, confuse and not pay out.
Two years to get about 70% of what we where insured for, lucky we wernt at fault!
Even at twice the price I'd go somewhere else.

I'm glad, and stuned, that they payed out...
But I'd strongly recomend looking elsewhere.
Protector have looked after me in the past, AMI have been no drama so far but NZI and state are the same.
IAG own both.

When I had a quick trip over the roof of a drunk in a cage, state paid out in full:first:
Got a bike twice the cc and twice the price but had premiums reduced by $100 per year... go figure. best price by far but it is an older bike and I have had no incidents for over 5 yrs. Newer more pricey bikes may have a better deal elsewhere. Only went with state as they were the only ones who would insure me after I had a head on. been with them for 10yrs now:cool:

I would have thought that would be 'glove' in your case?

They eventually paid out on hXc's bike...not their fault it took so long, it was the other party.
Donald, how long are we 'storing' the 400 for you...storage bills are mounting up, dude!

I use Classic Cover as State won't cover your bike gear....only your bike. Classic paid out when I wrote off my Blade, no problems at at, new bike and new gear, they're underwritten by Vero.

Usually your gear is covered under your house and contents insurance.

I've claimed twice (inside 6 weeks ) for riding gear damaged at Levels and Ruapuna respectively.

This was covered by my contents insurance and as such it covers track use as well...

The first time it took a while to get the wheels set into motion - but they were going through some kind of staff training programme at that point and so were under-staffed most of the time. No hassles in the end though - 5% depreciation.

The second time just went through with no hassles at all. And I got full replacement value less my excess - i.e. zero depreciation.

I can only say I'm a happy customer!

It is indeed but do you really want to claim off two insurance policies if you have a smash when one can cover it all?

I hate the way they take out depreciation. Heck did the shop give you 5% off when you bought your gear??? Heck no. So why should an insurance company that you have paid way more than what you get back, tell you 5% off the price!

You should be able to crash - insurance fix bike, insurance replace your gear. It should be as if it never happened and the customer should not be out of pocket other than premiums.

I guess I keep forgetting they are a business and at the end of the day provide a service in order to make a profit.

Well, if a set of leathers have an expected life-cycle of 10 years - if you have used them for 5 years then it is not fair to expect the insurance to buy you a brand new set of leathers. Same goes for just about everything else. Some things are complicated in this regard are things like antiques, items of sentimental value, etc.

Insurance is ultimately not about getting as much back as you're putting in. It's about having security against huge unexpected expenses that would throw your life off track.

However, if insurance companies are less forthcoming than you would like - then it might be worthwhile noticing that not all claimants are either forthcoming or even remotely honest. I prefer that my insurance company practice sane and logical business instead of uncritically throwing money at everyone who file a claim. That way they are not likely to have run out of money when I need their help.

Depreciation is a given I'm afraid. Standard accounting practice for any asset valuation.

State were really good when I had my accident. I ended up getting as much back as I paid for my bike originally (obviously it was brand new), and I got back a fair price for my gear. They got my pay out back to me in a couple of weeks, and even gave me a discount on my next bike cover!

Yep :( When I wrote of my pratically brand new GN that had 2900 k's on the clock and was just under 2 months old it depreciated by $1500. That was my first experience with insurance depreciation! Funnily enough, State had refused to insure me stating that they didnt insure learner riders with no other history with them, even though I was over 25! Ah well, they must've known something eh!

Oh yes, that is another aspect where State was really good to me. I have my contents and car insurance with them.

I approached them with regards to getting cover for my 250 the day before I bought it (the day I sat my learners btw) and asked for a quote on comprehensive cover.
First they quoted something along the line of $600 per year. Then I had a good chat with them about them insuring our car, road experience and me being a reasonable chap - and whaddaya know? They put me on a premium of ~$240 pr year, what I would have gotten if I had had my full license for 8 years. :niceone: (This is with me being the exclusive rider and a $400 excess $6,000 insured value.)

Kiwibike have the Beemer ($7k value), RG500 ($7k) and RD350 ($2k) for a total of $800ish. Helps to be much more than 21, ,but even still that is a mighty high quote. What is the value of the cover? I think they are trying to tell you something...
NAC will usually insure anyone, irrespective of the record, with premiums priced accordingly.
I tried e-bike once and they quoted more than AMI (whcih was 1/3 more than Kiwibike) for les cover. Didn't feel the need to investigate them any further...

State were perfect whe I had My claim 2 weeks ago.

They inspected the bike the same day i got it to the shop, gave me a call on the day after to tell me it was a write off.

8 days after that I had money transfered into my account and a new bike a couple of hours later. :scooter:

I had 75% no claims bonus which fell to 55% after my clam.

I'm so happy with state.
State gets a huge green bling in my book. :niceone:

Thanks STATE.

I'd like to add: I claimed my riding gear with them and they said they would come back with a quote within a week... the next day they rang with the quote, it being within 80% of the gear's 'new value' minus the excess ($300). Farkin mint and a lot of stress off my mind. They didn't even want the old gear back and weren't bothered that boots and a glove were rattling around the bottom of an ambo somewhere.

You might even get away with the no claims drop. When my car was stolen (around a month ago now) I was told I'd go from 65% (I thought this was the max. How did you get 75%?) to 45%. However I've since looked at the new policy details and they have started doing lifetime no claims (after 1yrs no claim for me, maybe longer if your a new customer), and my current renewal papers (as of last week, but not actually renewed till early July) show me as still having 65%.

Check it out on your policy, it might be worth it :)

I've been with State for over 10 years and have had a number of claims and they've been great each time.

I have change my bike cover from them to Kiwibike though, although the premiums were going to be ~200pa the excess was 1K whereas Kiwibike was ~260 with excess of only 250.

State have been great but if anyone is looking for bike cover, give Dave at BK a holler, top team there!

State won't insure me because of my age/bike combo :( even tho i'v never had a crash or claimed and been riding since i was eleven, its just not fair. on a side note who is the best for insuring young people at reasonable rates? the SV is not even a "fast" bike

I have home contents, rental property and 2 cars insured with State and so far I have never had any real issues except they calculated my payments wrongly some years ago. Also a few years ago I backed my Landrover into, ok kind of over, a parked car, State did the right thing, fixed the other car no probs and it only cost me a small part of a no claims on a relatively low cost insurance policy.

I had my triumph trophy with state but when I got the new HD they quoted $2300 then $1500 after I got a quote from Vero. Its now with John Baker with the Ulysses discount its $850.

There aren't any companies that will insure young riders on big bikers at reasonable rates. Don't take it personally, this is just the way it is.

I was talking to state today about this very subject. We have 5 policys with them. If you make a claim say a month after your policy renewal (and your at fault), you will still have your 65% no claims bonus untill your policy is renewed again. The lifetime no claims bonus starts after 3yrs without a claim that was your fault.
Been with them for 10 yrs, they have paid out on every single claim we made and have been brilliant. Always fast too.
