It looks like a really bright star. It is a little brighter than the planet Jupiter appears.

It moves across the sky quite fast, tracking across in about 4 minutes.

Altitude is around 360km above the earth's surface - travelling at around 27,000km/hr.

Just saw it go past my window, didn't even have to get out of my chair.
Looked just as good as when I last saw it in 05.

Thanks for the heads up Skyryder!

ASTRONOMY GEEK ALERT!

Have you seen an Iridium Flare / Flash? The satellites that serve the Sat-phone have a big shiny flat-panel antenna on them, like a mirror. And you can see on the website when they are going to point at your house so the sun shines off the mirror, causing a bright flash in the sky. Brighter than any star, it's quite amazing to see.
Have a look at the schedule here, you enter your details where you are and it gives you a schedule of viewing times and directions and angles to look.

Like this, moving slowly, timed to the second.
