:eek:I am constantly amazed at people who think the politicians in this country give a shit about them. Labour, National, greens,NZ first blah blah etc etc etc since when did it matter which party is in power. They act like children in parliment (actually worse as they should know better) Promises they make to get votes and never keep, tax cuts that are worse than a smack in the face to the average NZer and i even heard today that the average wage in good ol kiwi land is seventy two thousand,i repeat average.....hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. i'm sure there are people that earn that but i bet i'm right in thinkin its not most of us.
How often do we hear "oh these guys will get in and sort the country out".
Every body needs to wake up and learn the horrible truth....
THEY DONT CARE.:Oi:
Rant over.

Two people earning $50k a year makes (obviously) $100k a year. Most of my colleagues would be on that as a minimum. One person on $50 and another on $25 is still over the average household income.

The most amazing thing is the average Kiwi's inability to become involved in Politics and to manage their representatives, to use MMP to create the Government you want and need. "Maori" are immensely better at politics than "Pakeha" because they feel they need to manage their fate.

Instead of studying politics and taking an active role in fixing problems we sit back and whinge and let a small group of people select a constituent or list MP who is wildly unsuitable. Because of the "average Kiwi's" attitude to tertiary education, you ignored the intellectualisation of the Labour party and ended up with a Government comprised of individuals who only know the price of milk because they see the little people complaining about it sometimes.

There are people in Germany who have never voted for the actual Political party they support. Instead the support they have been asked by the party they belong to to vote for another party to strengthen a potential ruling coalition.

The French still riot and protest if their Government starts putting commercial or political interests ahead of social issues.

But then those countries have lost everything including huge chunks of their population, 3 times in the last 140 years. Politics matters to them. It can mean the difference between life and death. Us? Cheese gets a bit dear and Interest rates float about.

If you don't participate at the grass roots of NZ politics then you have no chance of making a country that you, your family, or your mates can care about.

Don't take this as a personal attack, it's not. Saw a saying in a magazine once.. "success is a matter of luck, just ask any loser" I'm sure the guy you quoted did not get his 75k job by luck. Chances are he worked hard to get into that position. Just generalizing here, but NZ is rife with people sitting on their arses waiting to get 'lucky'.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

"I am a very lucky person and the harder I work the luckier I seem to be!"

If you don't know the guy - might be worthwhile looking here (http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/chemistry/laureates/2000/macdiarmid-autobio.html).
Unfortunately he passed away on the February the 7th last year.
