I said hi and made myself known, Ive been haging around the fringes far to long.
Just graduated from a 1986 GN250, which I bought in February to a brand new Honda CBF250. After reading all the opinions and advice on here I knew what to expect and have not been dissapointed. True its not the fastest thing on the road but it can get me to 100kph as quick as I want to get there, handles like a dream, looks the part and I paid $5000 for a new bike, Im a happy man. In fact I couldnt be happier apart from two small issues.
First of all why only give it a side stand, living in Weliington a bike needs all the stability it can get. So the question is, can I get a centre stand for it, if so where from and are they easy to fit.
Second issue is the gear shift arm. I only have size 9 feet and with my riding boots sometimes find it a struggle to get my foot under the arm to change gear. Is there any way of changing the position of the arm, maybe lifting it to give more space or could I replace it for a longer one.
Apart from these two small things I love the bike and the new found freedom of riding, and really looking forward to joining some of the wellington riders for a trip over the hill to the wairarapa. Might wait until I loose the L plates though.
By the way I have passed the GN on to my wife and she has caught the bug, she cant wait to get her learners.

if L plate riders are welcome along

depends on the group - it's never bugged our lot (manawatu area)

if it's impractical; ie: if we are out to cover a lot of kms in a day, we'll say so, but other than that, anyone is welcome. it's about riding your own ride and not feeling pressured into pushing your limits

Welcome.

Adjusting the gear should be just a matter of unbolting the lever arm/linkage, removing it from the splined shaft it's mounted on and rotating it to a suitable position, fit it back on the spline then tightening the retaining bolt. The guys that you bought the bike from might do this without charge if you ask them. Or one of the Welly KB crowd could help out.

As for centre stand. Talk the the dealer. There might be a Hondaline item available. If you look under the rear lower frame and you see two mounting points, compare with the GN if you like, your in luck.

Welcome to the CBF250 owners club. I got mine last week from ANZA in Palmerston and just starting to get to grips with it. Its a nice bike (well it seems it to me). How are you coping with windy Wellington. Finding coming down the Gorge on SH1 a bit nerve wrecking in the morning so thinking of fitting a windscreen ($165 from Motomart) to see if that helps. And I agree on the centre stand.
Compared the bike with GN250 and Scorpio and everything seemed alot more solid and better put together (and better looking) so I was happy to pay the extra $1k/1.5k. Mind you I can see me eventually growing out of it - although won't be for a couple of years yet....

Welcome to KB "properly"!

The CBF appears to be a nice bike for bugger al $$$'s.

Unfortunately the designers don't tacke individual cities into their design criteria, so Wellytown's wind could be brought to their attention?

Seems I posted into the wrong area...........great!

Re gear shifts - I have the same trouble on the SV......have to be SURE I get the foot under the arm. Dunno how some of the huge boots I see out there manage to get under the shift.......

Snap Sleeqe, got mine from Anza to. Same thing with the wind in the mornings also. I travel from the hutt to karori and feel lucky not to end up in the sea or plastered to the side of the hills some mornings.
Let me know how you get on with the windscreen, might be a good investment.
