There is only a couple of 180 turns... a couple of 270's, quite a few 90's, and then quite a few more.
Only 50 km's of gravel... 30 either uphill or downhill...
I think I'll stick to the long way round.
If the Custard Square can do the Danseys (Long Drop, 2006), then u can???
I wonder if the Raspberry Tart shud try it? :sweatdrop

Just thinkin..... Booked ferry today and managed to get group rates from Burt Rally, good score managed to get over 50 bucks off.
Looking at the map. Where the ferk, is this rally ?
Sailing wed 10th 2.15 Wgtn to Picton. so plenty of time. Expect to come from Omarama direction.
Can a road bike do the Dansey's ? and where the ferk are they anyway ?
I've done Picton to Blenheim via the  Goat track to where the cable we have that stops you drifting off the edge of the ice shelf. Dont want to do Dansey's, if its worse than that.
Petol should be below $1 a litre by the time I leave so should be a bit cheaper this year. :soon:

From Omarama, take the road towards Otematata, and just carry on through Otematata, through Kurow to Duntroon. Turn right immediately after the bridge and just follow the sealed road for 23 km.

It should be no problem at all. It is gravel most of the way from Dansey's Pass camp to Naseby, and many road bikes go through there. I have done it on a GT380, RE5, GT750, and more recently on a GS1200SS.

Oldrider will lead a group ride from Danseys Pass Holiday Park thru North Otago's meandering maze of roads heading South from late morning to arrive at our lunch venue about 1.00pm - 1.30pm.
Luckily I took a punt & booked a lunch date at the Famous "FLEURS" @ Moeraki in July. Although I only booked for 60, Fleur does now know that 70 may turn up. She tells me she is fully booked thru to Xmas.
If you have never been there then this is your chance to enjoy the superb food & surroundings in a relaxed atmosphere.
After lunch we could travel the superb coast road north into the Victorian Precinct pub "The Criterion".
Photo opportunity, then back to camp for an evening of debauchery & decadence ! :puke:

I take it they do have electricity. :shifty: I've got to have somewhere to plug my latte gadget into first thing in the morning.

It's the Maerewhenua River, it's got a good rep for fairly sizeable but crafty browns. It's fly fishing only though so getting back into the swing of casting and mending line will be a laugh

I checked it out on Saturday after advising the the "Criterian" publican of our impending arrival. He actually has another biker poker run using him as a base the same day! The northern end of the coast road is not to be fixed again due to constant erosion.
We will just enter Oamaru from a slightly different suburb.

Its a great idea but it puts an onus on someone to tend to it most of the day, & I felt sorry for Shrek last year when it was not ready for the masses till about 11.30pm. Did it spoil his night?

Thing is, I will need to leave Camp Runamuck (aka Camp KB) and head down to Dunners, attend said graduation and then head back, to make things easier I would like to know if I can beg/borrow/steal a cage from somebody bringing one to Camp Runamuck to do this trip to Dunners???
Saves taking the scoot and turning up in leathers, NOT that there's anything wrong with THAT but it would mean sitting in a wrm hall in even warmer motorbike gear and going out for a meal in said gear.

There is only a couple of 180 turns... a couple of 270's, quite a few 90's, and then quite a few more.
Only 50 km's of gravel... 30 either uphill or downhill...
If the Custard Square can do the Danseys (Long Drop, 2006), then u can???
I wonder if the Raspberry Tart shud try it? :sweatdrop

All for the lack of finance and a very sore back.
Tis Xmass time and I must put the passion of my bike to the side for a while and enjoy the love of my two little grand daughters who I want to spend more time with.
I almost droole at the thoughts of an weekend abandoning the rules of society, partying with a group of people who know who they are and where they are going, no masks or hidden agendas, just friends having a great time.
But there will always be anothe sunset to ride into
another set of twisty roads to challenge my style ( woodstock?)
and always you group of real people I have come to respect
Rock on and party hard my friends, have a round of shots for me.

While I have enjoyed reading about tent erections................ I have one (or two) more mundane practical questions
XKnuts or Shrek or whoever knows - do the cabins have any cooking facilities? Do we need to bring a pan etc or does the camp kitchen have all that stuff ??
Sounds like we will need a couple of breakfasts at the site, but unless we're getting there early enough to need to cook a Friday night feed then I presume we'll be out riding for the other meals??
The feed at Fleur's at Moeraki was Sat? - lunchtime or dinner?
Thanks

Possibly a bit of easterly shit on the way up/down on Friday but fine for the rest of it. The wind doesn't look like it will be too strong either but with all the wind we've had over the last few weeks everyone should be getting good at that now!!

- do the cabins have any cooking facilities? Do we need to bring a pan etc or does the camp kitchen have all that stuff ??
Sounds like we will need a couple of breakfasts at the site, The feed at Fleur's at Moeraki was Sat? - lunchtime or dinner?
Thanks
I have asked the Q? about kitchen equipment in the camp kitchen. So will advise.
I believe the cabins have a kitchenette, and the A Frame has a full kitchen.
Fleurs Lunchtime date could be under threat due to numnuts here not changing the booking date when we changed original camp date from 6th Dec to 13th,
Anyway Fleur has told me she will discuss with her chef that we have an outside BBQ if she can't fit us inside. This maybe a set menu price rather than A La Carte & may suit us better anyway. I will advise :soon:.

Thanks for that Chris - bit of an oops over the date change but it may end up suiting us better with an outside venue which will prob be cheaper as well.
Do you reckon that means we will prob need to take food for Sat night at the camp?

Weather forecasts should never be mentioned the week of the event, it scares them off. For gawd sake don't anyone mention or predict a rough ferry crossing. Or someone will be spending a lot of time in the Dunny.
