$1300, 1982 GS125.
It seems to be everything I want - light, 4-stroke, south island, will (just) do 100k...
Everyone reckons $1300 is a good price for it?

Pictures can be decieving. It looks good for 1100, not sure about 1300 though. Take it for a test ride or get a good friend that has knowledge around bikes to give it a check over, even better - try get it into a mechanic to get a check over properly.
My two cents ;)
PS: You're only buying trouble at that age of bike, in my opinion. :dodge:

Bikes of that era have very little that can go wrong with them.

I just don't like the sound of riding a 26 year old bike at 100, that's all. Okay, it may have decently low KM's, but how many rain storms, how many damp nights, how many hoons? I'd rather go a bit more recent, at least 1990.

There's some of us odd sorts that swear by 26 year old bikes. :msn-wink:

Do not stress about its age mate. If it is sound mechanically, and you do the oil/filter changes at 5000k intervals, dont thrash the nuts out of it unfairly it will do the job for you.

Ok, the seller has had other interest, but with everyones comments in mind, I'm thinking I should offer him $1100, otherwise tell him that he can sell it to someone else.

Same here, and $1300 seems a lot to pay for such an old bike, even $1000. After all its only a 125. What about availability of parts? How old are the tyres, if left in storage for several years they may need replacing even if the tread is good; tyres do degrade over time - 5 years or so. If it were me I'd wait and look around.

Good luck finding a CBR, ZXR, or GSXR 250 that is less than 15 years old.
A big chunk of them are nearing 20 years old and still commanding criminal prices.
1990? 250cc or less? It'll have 10 owners, 2-6 of them dealers and it will have been thrashed to death. All of them. Without exception. I have friends who ask me to look at all sorts of old munt and I tell them to buy a new Yamaha Scorpio instead. Of course they don't and then I have to put up with the saga that is the piece of shit they've bought.
GN125's tend to be bought by women or older blokes, and tend to have a relatively easy life.

looks like a good buy, and the owner looks like he's looked after it. One thing though , if you are a big guy think twice.
The wife had one, and I used it to commute on back in Uk, and it struggled to hit 90k's with me on it. Bloody economical though.
