Howdy all!
I've just got my license after several yearsof illicit riding without one. When I was much younger I had a TZR250 and more recently was getting around on a ZZR1100.
Unfortunately the boys in blue got hold of me and I got a slap on the wrist. :(
Now im 6'4" and about 120kg and I want to purchase a 250cc that a) is going to fit my frame and b) will do more than pull a skin of my favourite pudding.
Whats the best bet?
I was considering a Hyosung GT250R or a Kawasaki 250R Ninja (as in new bikes) but I figured having read some of the threads on here that maybe I should not bother buying new and then going bigger once I have my full, plus, the Hyosing sounds like a troublesome bike.
Id really appreciate the advice of some of the bigger lads on site.
Thanks!
Adam

Plenty of threads on this, there's a search feature in the top menu bar.

I'm pretty sure from reading the threads on here that you can get a dispensation to a 400cc but check it out. Also I read here that the laws are changing (or have changed) concerning a starter bike being restricted to 250cc, I think there are now nominated bikes??
Best check it out at the MOT. No doubt someone will post, to confirm or deny the above, but still check it out at the cop shop.

Nope...wasn't stolen. Was actually my brothers. I got forbidden to ride until I obtained a license. Foolish boy I was :)

Well...I just went out and bought myself a Kawasaki 250R.
They don't land until September but I guess I can wait till then...somehow!

Interesting. I'm 6.3" and found the Kawaka too small.

Its interesting tha tthe quoted seat heights are actually the same and that the Ninja is supposedly wider overall...though I dont know where this is measured from.
I havent been able to find a Ninja to try on for size so Mt Eden Motorcycles (Who are great by the way) have allowed me to put down my deposit subject to the bike fitting me...if I find it too small I'll go for the Hyosung.
But I REALLY want the Ninja...lets hope I shrink between now and September :)

The seat heights are not the same in any of the brouchers i got, and after sitting on both i found i could go flat foot on the kawa but couldnt on the Hyo so you may want to check that out again, Iv got a Ninja250 on order from MT Eden bikes as well though, mine should hopefully be in towards the end of this month start of next the reckons :2thumbsup

Yeah the brochures they give me quote 775mm for Ninja and 780 for Hyosung...5mm is splitting hairs :)
Its amazing...they have three shipments coming in. First and second sold out and third is going fast. Can't believe the demand...must tell you something about these bikes huh?

be aware that seat height alone is not the only criteria for flat footing a bike.
If the seat is wider, or the tank, it also uses up your leg length, ie, less for being able to flat foot it. Then you have the sag in suspension when you sit on it, etc.

Just spoke to MT Eden bikes, my Ninja should be ariving around the 15th of july :Punk: But the rep has told me that Kawasaki have realised they dropped the ball in regards to the supply VS demand so they have created a competition where if you put a deposit down between a certain time you go in the draw to have Kawasaki pay for the bike for you (minus on road costs) :shit:
So apparently i have about a 1 in 100 chance of getting my bike for free :shifty:
Only thing working against me is my luck, i could have a 1 in 2 chance and still lose every single time
It still feels nice to know im in the running though :woohoo:

I'm 6.1 and the Hyo Comet is fine for me, and regards to problems I've had none.

Yeah, they LOOK cool. They're a good learner bike too.
Honda missed a trick there. They should be putting CBR125 fairings on VTR250s.

One less choice for learners wanting a new bike
