View Full Version : Buying a new body - for me not the bike!

Hiya all, well I am off on an adventure to buy a new body and it was suggested i do a thread talking about how it is going. Off course this is a bike fourm so i need to link it back to bikes somehow!
So the deal is I am off to Singapore for a holiday and then KL in Maylasia for 23 days. While there I am having a total body makeover - neck lift, breast lift(wahoo), arm and thigh lift, extended tummy tuck and tons of lypo. Linking this back to bikes, the tummy tuck will mean I have a greater selection of bikes I can ride as the tummy wont be on the tank oh and also having lasik on my eyes so i don't have to do the glasses / helmet thing!
Set myself a goal before i left that i would get my post counts up over the 280 mark to become a snr member. Thinking cruising KB while high on drugs should be fairly normal for a member....
Anyway back to linking in bikes, well Singapore has tons of them. At the moment we have found so many that are just soooo ready for the bucket track! And so much for the all the gear all the time phlosophy, apart from a helmet I am yet to see anyone wear anything at all protective. And apparently, yes you can wear jandels and ride a bike.
Going to explore a couple of bike shops later today (along with a number of other shops!) as we found some in the alley by the hotel. Shops are open 10-10 here but as they are 4 hours behind we were out exploring at 5am! Now I have had a nap I think i am ready to go. Although we are staying next to this bizzare department store that is open 24/7. it is packed to the gunnels with tacky nick nacks, and high end goods. Totally strange but interesting to explore.
Will keep you updated on how it goes....

:gob: Crikey! You wouldn't catch me voluntarily letting someone near me with a scalpel, let alone having all that stuff done at once!
But you've obviously thought about it and know what you're doing - so all I can say is good luck, have fun, and I hope you're delighted with the results.
And of course this thread is useless without pictures - so how about some before and after pics so we can appreciate the difference?

will have to hunt out some photos but the after shots may have to wait. Takes a wee while for things to settle down and for me to look my fab self. For those who are interested in plastic surgery holidays just google gorgeous getaways. Way cheaper than having it done at home, but you need to have a few things done to make it economically viable.

Prolly won't cost a lot more than we have to pay for the removal of hXc's wisdom tooth!
Free dental care for under 18's..what a joke! At $1400, I'm not laughing, but I guess someone is (ie the dentist!)
I hope you are happy with the results.

Ok went shopping today. Was an interesting experience, living next door to the 24/7 indian bazzar / dept store didn't really give us many expectations for the rest of the shopping. We were told the place to go was orchard road, so into a taxi we go and head there. We walked into the first department store and all we could see was tiffanys, cartier, hugo boss etc. Thought hmmm this isn't the place for us! With the exchange rate pretty much one for one and the prices not to much cheaper than home (even on electrical items) we decided to head to china town.
Now that was a great idea, i shopped up a storm. Cant tell you what i got as Nasty would find out what I am bringing her home, but lets just say that there is silk galore! Things like 3 silk ties / scarves for $5, silk table runners for $6 etc and some really georgous things. Anyway I had a lot of fun buying gifts to take home. Even managed to find a couple of wrap around skirts for me.
Did the skype thing and called home (talked for 2 hours and payed about $2) which was great. Ended up going to McDonalds for dinner, which was interesting - the basic menus is the same (big mac, mcchicken, fillet o fish) but other than that very different. I wasn't game enough to try the green tea mcflurry but thinking I will do breakfast there tomorrow and try the mcgriddle sasague thing
I know Macers isn't what I should be eating but we are in the middle of little india and there isn't much choice if you dont want curry and i had curry for breakfast. We were wondering the streets at 5am trying to find someplace open (it was 9am nz time) and stumbled across this indian stall on the side of the road. Had a very interesting chickpea donut and crape with suger and curry sauce. Not bad and for $3.50 for the two of us good value for money.
If you do want to check out singapore mcdonalds they have a website www.mcdelivery.com.sg and yes it is right - they deliver 24/7.
In order to keep this thread motorcycle related I would like to now give my bike observations:
Motorbikes have to have front licence plates, can be a sticker across the fairing but most have that scary slicey thing down the front wheel.
They also have to pay for parking in some areas - coupon parking is not motorbike exempt. Tip: the fuel cap key cover makes an excellent coupon holder. Although many people also go for the bulldog clip on the visor option.
Bike stores here tend to only sell helmets and repair seats. Although Wannerbiker did go into one that sold gloves and codura, however as I am yet to see anyone at all wear this i am thinking that shop was an exception not the rule.
Singaporians have an obsession with top boxes, i have seen hundreds of bikes and just a handfull that don't have them. And they sometimes are in better nick than the bike.
So thats all for now folks, tomorrow is touristy day and we are off to see some sights. I am sure i will be able to find some motorbike related info in order for this thread not just to be about my holiday.

OK we spent the day doing the touristy thing yesterday - although not to sure how many people cruise bikeshops between tours!
We started the morning doing a habour cruise which was amazing - the largest port in the world (tonnage wise) and at any one time they have an average of 800 ships. There must be a fair few bikes in those ships I would say.
We then had a couple of hours between our next tour so we headed off to bike shops. We are based in Little India which I am not sure if it is representative of bike shops but it was an adventure.
The strange thing for me is the segmentation of the shops, they don't seem to be one stop shops rather itsy bittsy shops. So we stopped at a shop that sold bikes, helmets and top boxes but nothing else. Then at a shop that sold accessories and another that sold spare parts, they just don't seem to have any shops that sell everything under one roof.
As as for the whole browsing and trying things out, that doesn't happen either. Most things are in cabinets or behind the counter. I did find this lovely shoei helmet and really loved it. So I asked if I can try it on, they wanted me to agree to the price and I was like why? to which he replied that i had to buy it to try it on. I said no way, even though it was my size it may not fit or feel good and I am not buying a helmet without wearing it first! The reason was that if people try it on it is second hand and people wont buy it as a new helmet! Needless to say I walked out the door.
We did stumble across another really nice shop (it had aircon) and some very cheap leather jackets, just a shame I don't know what size I will be else I would have been rather tempted. They also had the really nice helmet and would let me try it on without buying it and all I can say is cant wait to get back to NZ to order one! It was lovvvely.
While i think it is law here to wear a helmet it doesn't seem to need to be a full face one. Which seems to be conducive to things like chatting as you ride / stop at lights or smoking as you ride. It seems that yes you can ride a haybausa while smoking.
Not to sure what they roads are made out of, they are black but don't bleed in the sun and the surface is lovely. Also we haven't seen any black from tire rubber on them, and with the way they drive here emergancy breaking is not uncommon! (this was a contribution from wannabiker, like i notice the road surface!)
After we did the bike shops we did an evening tour to Sentosa Island which is the premier tourist destination in Singapore. Had a good night and came back and slept like a baby! Today is a really busy day, three tours to pack in, we are on the go from 8.30 and will be back about 11 tonight (3am nz time) so will give you a further update tomorrow.
PS yes that is wannabiker, he just shaved his head....

Now that is one cool update ... sounds interesting people now allowed to try on a helmit and having to pay otherwise its second hand ... mad!! ... Mind you the insurance company here rang a bike shop to find out how much for a second hand helmit when the Grubby one had his off cos they did;t want to pay the $600 for a new one ....
Tours sound like fun ... hope you got some good pics for us to look at on your return .... PS we would recognise that head anywhere!! besides being the only white one in the shot!!

Why thank you, and I look forward to proving you right.
Not much bike wise to report today, we spent the entire day in tours and it is now 11pm (3am nz) and I am rather tired. We did see a ducati shop a couple of blocks away from the hotel and I know wannerbiker is rather hoping to get there in the few hours on Monday morning we have left in Singapore. The really interesting thing was that they also sold ducati pushbikes - never knew they made them and prehaps the only ducati i would be able to fit on.....
In the only in Asia bike riding category todays winner is the pillion that was reading a map while they were travelling at 90km down a 4 lane motorway. The worst part was he had the map around the side to show the driver were to go..... Sorry too late to get a photo but trust me it was a sight to see!
Anyway off to bed for me now, tomorrow is the begining of the big adventure as I am off to KL. Although not meeting the surgeon till tues morning so hopefully will have some Malaysan bike related news for you all tomorrow.

0123 am local time. Hi all that are following this thread, I am temporarily taking over as sweetP has just come from her first surgery period, and is recovering presently in the hospital. We are anticipating her being released to recouperate at the apartment here in a couple of days. Surgery went well and all OK.
so....We are in Kuala lumupur now.The hospital is about 4 km away from the apartment. I have my bearings sorted now and am happy to walk there. A taxi costs 4.7 ringit (NZ$2) if the driver uses the meter. 6-10 without the meter. Traffic is heavy and there are small motorbikes everywhere. Each green light is like the start of the malaysian 125gp. Riders fashion is to wear a shirt backwards, which I assume is to stop things such as cigarette butts and insects flying down the front of your shirt . There are 2 lanes on the main road to the hospital which will accomodate 3 cars wide with enough space for lane splitting down each side of the middle car. Traffic was quite heavy on the way back to the hospital at 8.30pm but the road was relitavely empty at 1am on the way back to the apartment, being driven by malaysias top F1 driver. We managed to maintain 120 from the pick-up to drop-off (the road has a 60k speed limit!!)
Across the road from the hospital is a large shopping mall and surrounding shops. I noticed that the banks have a security guard posted outside, as is practice in NZ. However, the jewlery shops have a security guard too, but armed with a pump action shotgun. These are not policemen) There were several outlets in this mall withh such guards, and it was a very busy mall. I did also notice that the security guards delivering money to the bank were armed as well.
Well folks, its getting on to 2am now and I had better grab a couple of hours rest. See ya!:scooter:

hey folks, just to let you know I am still alive and semi kicking. Thighs a bit to tight to kick very hard. Now in an attractive body stocking so keeping things nice and supported so I can walk a bit even if my mum would beat me in a footrace! The hospital was lovely, everyone was very concerned that wannabiker made me wheel my wheelchair out, i was having a great deal of fun, and as he said "the arms work fine, they arent' getting done till next week!".
Ok onto traffic related info to keep this on topic, well we have learnt thailand is the place to go - you can rent a super bike for about 50 riggits a day.
Wannabiker is having great fun exploring motorbike places and places in general. He had dinner at a place called Suzies which was under a motorway overpass last night which slightly concerned me but he said it was good food. The taxi driver who wanted to turn right that went around the car doing a u turn also concerned me but then what do you expect in a place that the speed limits are "optional".
Thats me for now folks, off to nap, which seems to be my main activity of late (well that and watching discovery).

Glad to hear you're recovering - Thailand is definitely the place to go! Get there if you possibly can, amazing food, cheap motoring, friendly people, a beautiful country. I was so moved by my Thailand experience, I came back and just had to sponsor a couple of children. While the pace and values of our western world can sometimes be soul-destroying, in Thailand it's anything but - you'll come home a new woman! Hi folks, well it is the eve of the next big surgery so thought I had better give you an update. Sorry it has taken to long, i was in a morphine la la land for a while and couldn't string a sentence together and once that cleared i got right into power shopping.
Yes power shopping, no holding me back, with Wannabiker having done so much recon we hit the malls with a vengeance and had a whole heap of fun. And surprisingly my body kept up with it, but then hey I am a girl and shopping is medicinal to us.
Had a very frustrating day today actually, having seen all the mall sights that we wanted to see (eg the mall with the amusement park, the mall with 900 shops, the 8+ floors of technology) we thought we would settle into one of our fav activities - motorbike shop mooching. Only problem was we couldn't seem to find them.
We had asked around and even looked in the yellow pages but hadn't had much joy. Finally got a lead and jumped in a taxi to follow up on it. Wandered around this mall thinking that it cant be right before thinking we would comb the streets to see what we could find. Stumbled across a couple of police men giving a ticket (to a motorbike) who suggested a place a couple of kms away.
So off we head (thank goodness wannabiker has a good memory for foreign names) and we see some promising sites. As we head down this street we see a couple of rows of shinniny harleys. About 500m down the road the taxi driver signals a big building up ahead and kicks us out. So the plan was to hike back to the harley place (by now we were suffering such bad bike withdrawal symptoms that they would have at least provided some respite) and then work our way back to the building further up the road.
Ok so here we are walking what seemed like a mile to me (wasn't that bad except every 5 or so metres I had to go up and down the curb which is more of a me taking a run at it to get momentum) and we hit what we think is a harley shop. We soon start to browse the bikes when the realisation hit us. Not only were there not price tags but the people staring at us were actually working on the bikes. We had in a way found a harley shop - it was just a harley workshop. Kinda like walking into the back of TSS, ignoring the staff and perusing the bikes there.....
Oh the shame but on the positive side we had gone past a dealer in our walk so we knew had at least one shop to visit. And Air con..... ahhh air con it was bliss looking at sports bikes and cooling down.
Ok back to the bikes. Well it was a ducatai dealer (Wannabiker was in heaven) and they had a couple of 1048's (with price tags!) We can see why everyone rides 125s, the sports bikes are not cheap. They had two models one at 138K and the other at 178K which works out to be which is $56K and $72K respectively. They also had some second hand bikes - a 05 GSX600R was NZ$28K and a R6 $31K. So certainly not cheap and when you are on an income that is around $300 nz per month certainly not affordable.
Which really explains why we haven't seen many sports bikes around. We sore a hyosoung comet today and that is it really. Have seen plenty of other things, like people texting while riding the entire family on the bike (who needs kiddy seats) or drinking from a screw top bottle.
And the fact they were no safety gear and doing it at 60+km makes it all the more scary. But that just summarizes riding here in KL, the traffic is crazy and the bike riders even crazier. And really if they were wearing safety gear they wouldn't be able to do half the things they can.
One very informative taxi driver we had said that in the two weeks between Ramadan and Chinese New Year they had 200 people killed on the road (equivalent to about 20 in nz). And really this is no surprise, the risks they take are amazing and the lack of gear is overwhelming. I struggle to wear sneakers on the bike and there are women here in strappy high heal sandals.
So that is it really, a very frustrating and frankly alarming time with motorbikes here in KL, and i guess the end of my ticky touring as appartently the lypo makes you feel like you have been hit by a truck (and with the way the traffic is here, it is not so hard to imagine). So I might try to post some drug enduced comments but then you might use them against me in the future. But seriously folks, I will ask Wannabiker to keep you informed but don't expect to hear from me till at least the weekend.
Oh and as for the big building up ahead - car dealer, if you had a spare $2.4m RM and was in the mood for a ferari then i know just the place....
J
PS have restrained my self when buying shoes, but the ones I have are soooo pretty.
PPS Haven’t restrained myself much else when it came to shopping - 3 days of 6 hours each in a mall puts a serious dent in your gift list.
