Hi,

As of last Friday (13th) I am the proud owner of a 1990 Suzuki FA50 of immense beauty and style, which promises much fun for me and even more derision from my mates..... just as soon as I get it running.

It is missing the air filter assembly, I've been quoted $110-$150 for a new one ex-Japan and I've phoned around a few wreckers with no joy for a used one.
Any help or advice on either sourcing the assembly or bodging together an alternative would be much appreciated.

I know very little about bikes -but do own a 2-stroke lawnmower so am familiar with servicing more powerful engines. Thanks in advance.

Stick a K&N copy pod filter on it? Might need to bodgy up an adapter and look at the jetting.

The mechanic I spoke to said not to put on a pod filter as it can lead to drama's with tuning...... but I'll look into it again - thanks.

You can buy foam (unifilter brand) at many shops in sheetform, Superglue together carefully.

Here's the touring model

I love the look of the touring model - it's something to aspire to.
Thanks for the info - I need the whole assembly (air box) but am thinking to just bodge one up and make a filter using your above advice - cheers.

Thanks Vagrant - looks about the same as the best $95 quote I've got (by the time it's shipped).... but perhaps eBay is where I should have started.
I've just tracked down the bottom half of the box at a wreckers ($10) so will see if I can make something using F5 Dave's filter idea and find a plastic container to fit the top. Bike's now running but is hopelessly gutless... hoping this is due to the filter being missing...... or maybe they only work when pointing downhill?

it will work crap without a filter, but also likely is the pipes gunge & carbon up, do a search on cleaning pipes on the web.

I have a complete FA50 motor assembly unbolted from a crashed bike.
PM with an offer for the complete unit or just the airbox assembly with filter and carb rubber. It is in good nick with no crackes or leaks. I rode this bike (before sending the rest of it to the dump) and the motors a good runner.
Was going to keep as a spare for my FZ but turning it into cash works for me as well.

I tried to PM you but got a "Your post count isn't high enough to use the Private Message system" message. I think you can send me one though... I'd be keen to get my hands on the air box. Cheers.

Will look up pipe cleaning, and maybe tackle it once I've sussed the air filter. It runs well with very little smoke but wouldn't pull a maggot off a pork chop.

Heres whats its like condition wise. The ally piece is not original but does the job just fine.
